SUMMARY:Klāvs Liepiņš\, Renate Feizaka & Raimonda Sereikaitė-Kiziria: As you are now so once was I/As I am now so will you be
DESCRIPTION:The Living Art Museum welcomes you to the opening of the new exhibition AS YOU ARE NOW SO ONCE WAS I/AS I AM NOW SO WILL YOU BE on Good Thursday\, August 26th at 5–9 pm. Thereafter\, the exhibition will be open during the museum’s normal opening hours\, until October 3rd. \nThe participating artists Klāvs Liepiņš\, Raimonda Sereikaitė-Kiziria and Renate Feizaka\, are all based and work in Iceland. Their works derive from an apparently different viewpoint yet they enchantedly meet in this exhibition in the realm of elemental human uncertainties. \nRaimonda´s large-scale\, self-content sculptures with their vivid colours and stimulating textures are in consistency to the artist’s fascination in altering the physical form of her pieces. \nThe artist duo Klāvs Liepiņš and Renate Feizaka use their Nature-Human theme as a starting point where political\, cultural and existential hypotheses derive from.buy cialis generic https://cialisnextdaydeliveryusa.com over the counter\n Their soil installation serves as a symbol of the fabrication and absurdity of nationalism : the concepts of heritage and belonging : as well as a representation of the cycle of life. \nThis exhibition comes as the result of a public open call issued by the board of the Living Art Museum in the autumn of 2020\, aiming towards encouraging and reaching a more diverse group of artists that feel under-represented in the Icelandic art scene.

SUMMARY:SEQUENCES X - / CREATION / DESTRUCTION /
DESCRIPTION:/ CREATION / DESTRUCTION / is the title for the exhibition of Sequences X which takes place at The Living Art Museum and Kling & Bang at The Marshall House. The title seeks inspiration in the lecture of artist Sigurður Guðmundsson\, TIME\, from 1969\, and can be found in the festival’s catalogue: \nThe phenomenon of time is important in all art. Art is a very suitable means of travelling in time and space. The first paths to a new time usually run through works of art. \nWe perceive new art and in this way see a new world which is not a dream but reality. We forsake the old world\, apart from a few things which are called cultural baggage or preserved works of art. From these we can always see where we have been. \nTime destroys all things\, but what perhaps stays the longest are the traces of the human spirit\, the evidence of truth: art. \nSigurdur Gudmundsson\nNovember 1969\nLecture Norræna Húsið\, Reykjavik \nArtists at The Living Art Museum: \nBjörk Guðnadóttir (b. 1969) seeks inspiration for her work in many places and uses various materials\, such as linen\, wool yarn\, plastic\, plaster and wax. She has held solo exhibitions and been selected for numerous group exhibitions\, both in Iceland and abroad. She has received many grants and her works can be found in the collections of art museums and collectors. Björk is a member of the Icelandic Sculptors’ Society and the Living Art Museum. \nGuðlaug Mía Eyþórsdóttir (b.1988) completed a BA degree from the Fine Art Department of Iceland University of the Arts in 2012 and later studied at the MA program in Fine Art at the Koninklijke Academie in Gent\, Belgium\, from which she graduated in 2018. Guðlaug has initiated a broad range of projects within the arts and has worn many hats as a publisher\, curator and researcher. Between 2012-19 she initiated\, along with fellow artists\, the exhibition venues Kunschlager in Reykjavík and ABD Klubhuis in Antwerp\, Belgium.  In her practise Guðlaug concerns herself with the sculptural aspects of our surroundings\, observes the forms\, textures and acts they consist of and explores whether daily activities can be materialised. \nGunnhildur Hauksdottir received her MFA from the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam\, Netherlands in 2006 and her BFA from the Iceland University of the Arts in 2002. Her works and performances have been exhibited and performed widely throughout her career\, she took part in the Silver Lining\, Collateral Event at the 56th International Art Exhibition at the Biennale di Venezia in 2015. Among the institutions that have displayed her works are the Galeria Municipal do Porto\, the National Gallery of Iceland\, the Reykjavik Art Museum\, the Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein\, the Uppsala Art Museum and the 21 Haus at the Belvedere Museum in Vienna. Gunnhildur has strong ties to Seydisfjordur and has lived there on and off since the start of her career. She is currently based in Reykjavik and Berlin. \nPétur Magnússon (b. 1958) was born in Reykjavík. After high school\, he attended the Icelandic School of Arts and Crafts (forerunner of the Iceland University of the Arts)\, then continued his studies at Accademia delle belle Arti in Bologna\, Italy\, and finally at Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunste in Amsterdam\, Netherlands. After graduation in 1986\, he lived in Amsterdam until 2003 when he returned to Iceland. In the Netherlands\, he was one of the founders of the Boekie Woekie art bookshop\, which is also a gallery and a publisher. He worked at the company for some years\, and Boekie Woekie presented his art at the Art Frankfurt fair in Germany in 1996. Pétur studied painting in Italy and printmaking in the Netherlands\, and this is evident in his older works. Over time he has moved into photography and sculpture\, often bas-reliefs\, and a combination of steelwork and photography is a common method. His art seeks to challenge the senses while offering new potential for perception of the environment. As a rule\, his works are site-specific. Material and perspective often play a major part in distorting the environment in a philosophical and humorous manner.

SUMMARY:Ásdís Sif Gunnarsdóttir: Conversation to the Self
DESCRIPTION:No conversation can take place without some kind of presence. And no conversation can take place without will or risk\, without stepping into unknown situations\, new perspectives and ambiguous feelings. Conversation to the Selfis a meeting place. A platform where video works\, photographs and performances; moments from different times in Ásdís Sif Gunnarsdóttir’s career intertwine into a complex whole. Archetypes from the future appear in times of crisis\, buried memories surface and vibrant stories break through darkness and crawl under the skin. The dreamy\, almost surreal flash that characterises Ásdís’ work takes over and invites us in. \nÁsdís’ works explore the intersection of magical realism and the wonders of nature through distortion\, transformation and ritual. They have a hint of poetic and impending turmoil. The works combine poetry and images\, private and public space\, technology and nature\, uncertainty and carefree. They all deal in their own way with what is reflected in the moment\, rather than what is actually in front of our eyes\, and appear to us in multifaceted videos\, live streamings\, interactivity and documentation in the form of texts and photography. Ásdís uses new media and technology to reflect the uniqueness of humanity: the soul and the memory that appears to us as a fragment\, rather than a whole. Her work is thus undeniably reminiscent of some kind of a machine that splits time and pieces it back together. \nÁsdís Sif Gunnarsdóttir (b. 1976) lives and works in Reykjavík. She graduated with a BFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York in 2000 and an MA from the University of California\, Los Angeles\, in 2004 with a focus on video and performance arts. Since the beginning of her career\, Ásdís Sif has exhibited in both solo and group exhibitions in Iceland and internationally\, including the Akureyri Art Museum\, Hverfisgallerí\, Reykjavík Art Museum\, Centre Pompidou (Paris\, France) and the Tate Gallery (London\, UK).

SUMMARY:IMMUNE/ÓNÆM
DESCRIPTION:IMMUNE / ÓNÆM is the result of a two-year research and collaboration project between 11 international artists\, designers\, scholars and curators\, who in their work deal with colonization\, queer ecosystems\, extractive capitalism and nationalism based on a common starting point: Eggert Ólafsson and Bjarni Pálsson’s Travels in Iceland (1775) and the image of nature drawn in their story. The exhibition includes a diverse group of artists\, working from ideas on the colonial history of the North\, manifestations of whiteness\, the Icelandic banana\, global warming\, salted fish\, shopping routes and nature\, amongst other. \nThe group of participants comes from various backgrounds and one of the project’s goals is to use Iceland\, this isolated island and ecosystem\, as a platform to reflect on political\, social and economic aspects of nature. \nA rich program of events will take place alongside the exhibition\, such as workshops\, performances and open discussions. \nOn the occasion of the exhibition\, Steinunn Gunnlaugsdóttir and Bryndís Björnsdóttir will present a work and a performance in front of Marshallhúsið\, during parts of the exhibition period. \n  \nCurators text:\nIn 1752\, the Danish Crown assigned two Icelandic nationals\, poet and legal scholar Eggert Ólafsson and physician Bjarni Pálsson\, to travel around Iceland for five years and collect a comprehensive report of life on the island. Their assigned objective was to estimate possible margins of improvement of the island as Denmark’s colony. For that \npurpose\, a detailed account of the island’s natural history was seen as the basis upon which agricultural reformers could build\, while debunking any previous mythical\, exotic narrations of the island of monsters and fire lakes. A few years later\, the duo’s report\, Travels in Iceland\, was published in four languages: Danish\, German\, French and English. It was not until 1943\, however\, that the book came out in an Icelandic translation\, one year before Iceland would gain full independence from Denmark after roughly 500 years of colonial rule. Denmark’s colonization of Iceland was most clearly defined by a trade monopoly\, which isolated the island’s habitat more thoroughly than the geographical location alone ever could. During the 19th century’s independence movement\, the preservation of traditions and language inevitably became the source of national value and identity. Ólafsson’s and Pálsson’s report\, Travels in Iceland\, came to be seen as a fundamental criterion for the definition of ‘Icelandic nature’\, what is considered the country’s native biota. By such means notion of intact and pristine nature is incorporated in culture\, politics and bureaucracy. This institutional immune system is the basis for the questions posed by the research project I M M U N E / Ó N Æ M. \nColonialism is known to have transformed physical space at every scale\, reorganizing preexisting balances while\, through new networks of free circulation\, creating the habitats required for microbes to circulate and thrive. In the case of this particular island-state\, however\, these effects of colonization have arguably been reversed. The island’s geographic location and literal isolation\, combined with the trade monopoly\, maintained what may be termed an artificial biosphere. This ongoing maintenance of the island’s isolation makes it an interesting node to reconsider what defines ecological systems and their immune systems. The title of the research project I M M U N E / Ó N Æ M touches on this by questioning the immunity of an island as a state of exception from the flux of microbes. \nThe project’s emphasis on the microbial is in tune with Suely Rolnik’s notion of microspheres’ modes of existence as capable of interrupting the colonial-capitalist unconscious. The project’s investigation has emphasized the possible activation of a physical ability for poetic-political actions. Rolnik claims that without such activation “the only possibility is to produce variations around the modes of production of subjectivity and of cognition that found us as colonies of Western Europe – precisely the condition from which we want to escape.” \nThe rich microbial world-system of the island’s geothermal waters\, which count among its main natural resources\, contains knowledge of ancient life-forms and has captured interest within the field of astrobiology. In what Benjamin H. Bratton has labelled a new Copernican turn\, human intervention has made Earth itself a terraforming project. \nIcelands terrain is considered geologically similar to landscapes of other planets and has a history of NASA using it as training grounds for expeditions. This largely desolate island\, \nbarely habitable were it not for the harnessing of geothermal energy\, is a prime example of a continuous terraforming project. The island is a node to rethink how future relations can be build on this planet and ideas of nature. \nAs widely reported\, due to global warming\, the Arctic is on the threshold of vast transformations. In terms of routes and resources it has been labelled ‘the last frontier.’ The project will revisit Ólafsson’s and Pálssons Travels in Iceland when changing trading routes are in the process of forming new constellations of movement. The project gives a platform for the sensibilities involved in artistic research\, to navigate the 18th century catalogue and its topics today\, as implied by the title I M M U N E / Ó N Æ M: the Icelandic equivalent for immune is the adjective ónæm\, which might be literally translated back as insensitive. The project presents the urgency of re-learning to be sensitive\, putting sensibility above the computational skill/habit of seeing Nature as a means to an end. \nThe island is an important location\, geographically and culturally\, to revive the notion of solidarity and cross-border alliances. It is therefore from the notion of a cluster that we establish our collaborative practices. The island was long termed a frontier of civilization within the same genre that the Travels of Iceland is written in. In 19th century travel literature\, the islanders were described as the barbarians outside of Europe. With Iceland’s independence movement\, the island clinged to ancient sagas and literature to build up an identity that was accepted by civilized nations of Europe. It is however this same identity that influenced seclusive national identities of Western Europe. From this midpoint of tectonic plates we are able to rethink how to assemble. \nWith support from: \nNordic Culture Point\, Nordic Culture Fund\, Goethe-Institut London\, Danish Art Council\, Swedish Art Grants Committee\, Vísindi og velferð: Styrktarsjóður Sigrúnar Júlíusdóttur og Þorsteins Vilhjámssonar\, Reykjavíkurborg\, Myndlistarsjóður \n  \nBiography \n\nAnnarosa Krøyer Holm \nAnnarosa Kroyer Holm explores the conceptual framework of sculptural history and practice. Through artistic research\, sculptural materiality\, mapping and archiving she addresses the interconnectedness of classical art history and European colonialism. With an interest in how personal memory and narratives can challenge the national identity construction and historiography\, she has made several projects that explore the interlocking of Danish colonialism and the white ideals emerging in European Renaissance and Neoclassicism. \n  \nBryndís Björnsdóttir \nBryndís Björnsdóttir (Dísa) is an artist\, writer and researcher. Their practice is based on creating poetic connections through the interweaving of themes such as landscape\, technologies\, bodies and economic power. In the last years\, she has focused on alternative understandings of nature and decolonial readings of land. In 2010-2016 Dísa initiated and established an international research project at a former NATO-base in Iceland called Occupational Hazard. In 2009-2012 she co-managed Útúrdúr; an artist bookstore\, publishing house and project space in Reykjavík. She holds an MA degree from Raumstrategien (Spatial Strategies)\, an interdisciplinary artistic research programme at Weissensee Kunsthochschule Berlin since 2017. Dísa is currently developing and managing a collaborative research project called IMMUNE/ÓNÆM and is a new member of the Many Headed Hydra collective\, a shapeshifting collective of queer&feminist ecologies and collaborative ritual practices. \n  \nHands.on.matter \nHands.on.matter is an explorative collective consisting of material and product designer Tim van der Loo (NL) and techno-anthropologist Sandra Nicoline Nielsen (DK). The duo practices circular material thinking by emphasising the potentials of post-consumer and biobased materials. Novel as well as traditional techniques serve as a catalyst for questioning resource use\, consumption\, sustainability and materiality in the world we live in. Hands.on.matter promotes practical learning to strengthen inter- personal and material dialogue as well as self- empowerment in times of climate change and scarcity through the facilitation of workshops\, installations\, talks and artist collaborations. \n  \nHerring\, Iron\, Gunpowder\, Humans & Sugar \nHerring\, Iron\, Gunpowder\, Humans & Sugar (HIGHS) – Collective that visits places that were linked to the triangular trade the economical system behind the transat- lantic slave trade. At the historical places they make performance with storytelling and dance together with objects consisting of the material that were extracted\, manufacturer and exportered by this places. In the process\, Whyte & Zettergren want\nto activate the sites and materials in a search for a method to process histor- ical trauma and to create discussions about memory\, heritage and responsibility. HIGHS is run by the Jamaican dancer Olando Whyte and the Swedish artist Rut Karin Zettergren since 2017. \n  \nPáll Haukur Björnsson \nWith his art Páll Haukur (b. 1981) tries to break away from and interrogate any given notions of mean- ing by asking what constitutes an object. His works aim at complicating the relations that defines them\, representing change or flux\, either through its relationship to the body in space or through the material condition of the work itself – often using biological substances like honey or mycelium as parts of the sculptural practice. The result is an aesthetic experience that constantly asks the viewer to situate and re-situate herself in relation to object and space as Páll Haukur aims to compromise the semiological boundaries between a person and an object\, between a thing and thing. Páll Haukur studied at the Icelandic Academy of the Arts and the California Institute of the Arts where he gradu- ated with a MFA in 2013. With a focus on drawing\, sculpture and performance\, his installations have been shown in Iceland\, Europe and the US since 2008. He lives and works in Reykjavík. \n  \nSheida Soleimani \nSheida Soleimani (b. 1990) is an Iranian-American artist\, educator\, and activist. The daughter of political refugees who escaped Iran in the early 1980s\, Soleimani makes work that excavates the histo- ries of violence linking Iran\, the United States\, and the Greater Middle East. In working across form and medium—especially photography\, sculpture\, collage\, and film—she often appropriates source images from popular/digital media and resituates them within defamiliarizing tableaux. The compo- sition depends on the question at hand. For example\, how can one do justice to survivor testimony and to the survivors themselves (To Oblivion)? What are the connections between oil\, corruption\, and human rights abuses among OPEC nations (Medium of Exchange)? How do nations work out repa- rations deals that often turn the ethics of historical injustice into playing fields for their own economic interests (Reparations Packages)? In contrast to Western news\, which rarely covers these problems\, Soleimani makes work that persuades spectators to address them directly and effectively. Based in Providence\, Rhode Island\, Soleimani is also an assistant professor of Studio Art at Brandeis Universi- ty and a federally licensed wildlife rehabilitator. \n  \nThe Many Headed Hydra \nThe Many Headed Hydra (TMHH) is dedicated to queer ecologies\, myth making and situated practic- es that emerge from bodies of water. TMHH collaborates with inhabitants of different lands and seas to cross-connect queer*feminist and decolonial research\, art making\, and publishing. TMHH uses ritual and fiction\, shape-shifting collectivities and storytelling to set resistant knowledges into motion. TMHH’s magazines are a performative device – they circulate as rumors\, gatherings\, printed matter\, performances\, exhibitions\, radio broadcasts\, evocations. The Many Headed Hydra was initiated by visual artist Emma Wolf- Haugh (IE\, DE) and Suza Husse (DE) in 2016 in Berlin and has recently expanded to include the curator Aziz Sohail (PK\, US) and artist/curator Bryndís Björnsdóttir (IS\, DE) as part of the core collective. \n  \nPia Arke \nPia Arke (née Gant) (1958–2007) was a Kalaaleq (Greenlandic Inuit) and Danish visual and perfor- mance artist\, writer and photographer. She is remembered for her self-portraits and landscape photographs of Kalaallit Nunaat (Greenland)\, as well as for her paintings\, writings which strove to make visible the colonial histories and complex ethnic and cultural relations between Denmark and Greenland. Throughout her artistic- research practice\, the artist used the metaphor of her own mixed- heritage as an opportunity to engage these historical relationships\, as well as address significant questions of Arctic Indigenous identity and representation \n  \nZahra Malkani \nZahra Malkani is a multidisciplinary artist based in Karachi. Her research- based art practice spans text\, video and web\, and explores the politics of development\, infrastructure and militarism in Pakistan. She is a co- founder with Shahana Rajani of Karachi LaJamia\, an experimental pedagogical project seeking to politi- cise art education and explore new radical pedagogies and art practices. Zahra is also an Assistant Profes- sor of Practice in Communication and Design at Habib University and is currently a fellow at the Akademie Schloss Solitude.

SUMMARY:IMMUNE/ÓNÆM
\n  \nVerkefnið er styrkt af:\nNordic Culture Point\, Nordic Culture Fund\, Goethe-Institut London\, Danish Art Council\,\, Swedish Art Grants Committee\, Vísindi og velferð: Styrktarsjóður Sigrúnar Júlíusdóttur og Þorsteins Vilhjámssonar\, Reykjavíkurborg\, Myndlistarsjóður\n\n\nÁgrip \nAnnarosa Krøyer HolmBryndís Björnsdóttir\nHands.on.matter\nHerring\, Iron\, Gunpowder\, Humans & SugarPáll Haukur Björnsson\nSheida Soleimani\nThe Many Headed Hydra\nPia Arke\nZahra Malkani

SUMMARY:The Last Museum
DESCRIPTION:The Last Museum (Reykjavik Edition) blurs the line between cinema and sculpture\, while exploring the potential of web-site-specificity. Principally accessed through www.nylo.is (for a limited period from the 11th of June) the exhibition features a major new commission by Egill Sæbjörnsson alongside contributions by artists from seven other countries. For the Reykjavik Arts Festival\, the project also materializes in the physical space of Nýló. \nThe Last Museum is (to borrow a term from computational engineering) a ‘stack’ that encompasses land\, sculpture\, code\, user experience and more. Each participating artist is commissioned to author a sculptural group\, to be installed at a physical site of their own choosing — associated with communications infrastructure\, technology and/or environment. Each intervention is then videoed and the resulting clips subsequently brought together as an interactive sequence. The outcome is a website experience. Thematically\, The Last Museum imagines information transmission across the historical longue durée\, dramatizing points of intersection with emerging technologies\, (body) politics\, and the global economy. As it does so\, a leitmotif of displacement\, limbo\, loss\, and undeath plays out. \nCurator: Nadim Samman\nArtists: Egill Sæbjörnsson\, Nora Al-Badri\, Nicole Foreshew\, Juliana Cerqueira Leite\, Jakrawal Nilthamrong\, Zohra Opoku\, and Charles Stankievech\, Petros Moris\nPartner: KW Institute for Contemporary Art

SUMMARY:The Last Museum
DESCRIPTION:Sýningin The Last Museum máir út mörkin milli kvikmynda- og skúlptúrlistar og rannsakar möguleikana sem felast í notkun vefsíðu sem sýningarrýmis. Á sýningunni sem er að stærstu leyti aðgengileg á www.nylo.is (í takmarkaðan tíma frá 11. júní) má sjá nýtt verk eftir Egil Sæbjörnsson ásamt verkum listafólks frá sjö öðrum löndum. Á meðan Listahátíð stendur yfir tekur verkefnið einnig á sig áþreifanlega mynd í sýningarsal Nýló. \nMeð vísun í orðaforða tölvunarfræðinnar má lýsa The Last Museum sem „stafla“ sem nær utan um land\, skúlptúr\, kóða\, upplifun notanda og fleira. SUMMARY:Archive of Missing Artworks
DESCRIPTION:The Living Art Museum collection has become a living legend\, but it contains unsolved mysteries which will now become the focus of the museum’s exhibition space in the Mashall house. The aim of the Archive of Missing Artworks is to publicly perform a comprehensive collection assessment while searching for the solutions to these mysteries. Guests are invited to participate in the inquiry and search for answers. The project will take over the exhibition space in the Marshall House from 9 July to 7 August this summer. At the same time\, we will start recording material for the Nýló channel\, a new podcast service that will launch in the summer. The Archive of Missing Artworks works will continue in the museum’s collection space in Völvufell for the following year. \n\n\nWhat could have happened to the missing artworks? Where are they? Were they returned to previous owners? Transferred to another storage? Were they loaned for exhibition and never returned? Did they suffer irreversible damage? Are there any photographs of the works? Has anything been written about them? When was the last time they were shown? And what about the works we don’t know anything about? Where did they come from? Who is the artist? Do you have information for us? We invite you to join us in creating the Archive of Missing Artworks. \n  \nThe Living Art Museum’s Collection grew rapidly from the museum’s founding in 1978 and counts close to 3000 pieces today. At the inception the guiding principle was artists’ dissidence against a perceived indifference of public art institutions toward contemporary art. As a result\, the collection is unique in many ways. It represents a history of development in Icelandic art from the 1970s to today but also includes works by a multitude of international and renown artists. The collection consists exclusively of donations\, most often from artists donating their own work. \n  \nCollections managers in Nýló through the years have encountered mysteries in the storage\, artworks that cannot be found\, orphaned works or completely unknown ones. With the Archive of Missing Artworks\, the aim is to conduct a foundational collections assessment and document the lost artworks and record their contextual metadata. The project entails an inspection of every shelf\, drawer and storage area with regard to the documented storage location on the online database Sarpur as well as paper documents for every piece that has been donated to the collection. \n  \nThe museum holds two archive collections; the Archive of Artist Run Initiatives and the Performance Archive\, as well as an archive of internal affairs\, but the final phase of this projects will result in the addition of the Archive of Missing Artworks. This will contain comprehensive documentation of the artworks that are considered lost. The byproduct of the archives development will be the collections assessment and further information on mysterious or orphaned works in the collection. \n  \nBy collecting documentation and metadata on the missing artworks\, they will be reclaimed as elements of the archive\, while they are searched for physically in the assessment. By opening this side of the museum work to guests\, a delicate side of the institutional workflow is exposed and the public is asked to participate as researchers. \n  \nThe first phase of this project will take over the museum’s exhibition space in the Marshall House\, where it will be jump started with the assistance of museum guests and the future of the assessment will be formulated. For the following months\, the project will continue in the collecion storage in Völvufell\, with regular opening hours. This will be a part of opening the collection\, providing valuable access and enhancing the visibility of the Nýló collection.

SUMMARY:Arkíf horfinna verka
DESCRIPTION:Safneign Nýlistasafnsins er fyrir löngu orðin lifandi goðsögn\, en í henni leynast óleystar ráðgátur sem nú taka yfir sýningarrými safnsins í Marshallhúsinu.

SUMMARY:Þau standast ekki tímann
DESCRIPTION:Á sýningunni rennur upplausn og væntingar saman við lífsins vökva og sköpunarmátt eyðingar\, umbreytingu og hreyfingu. Ferli sem eiga við náttúru sem samfélag\, hverful við fyrstu kynni en raunveruleg í augnablikinu. \nVökvi lekur í gegnum göt og sprungur\, kveikir líf\, holar og tekur. Jarðneskar leifar í söltum ílátum verða aftur sjór. Gufa upp eða liðast í sundur\, en hverfa ekki. Það er alltaf möguleiki á einhverju meira. SUMMARY:They won´t stand time
DESCRIPTION:They won’t stand time merges dissolution and expectations with the fluidity of life and the creative force of destruction\, transformation and movement. Processes that belong to both nature and society\, fleeting but momentarily real. \nLiquid seeps through holes and cracks\, sparks life\, hollows and takes. Earthly remains in salt containers become one with the ocean again. Evaporate or disintegrate\, but do not disappear. There is always the possibility of something more. If we wish hard enough\, we’ll reach transcendental bliss. \nThe board of The Living Art Museum brought the artists together through an open call issued by the museum\, Nermine El Ansari and Margrét Dúadóttir Landmark facilitated their conversation\, in collaboration with Sunna Ástþórsdóttir.

SUMMARY:Til sýnis: Hinsegin umfram aðra
\nlistamanneskjurnar: Anna Maggý\, Ari Logn\, BERGHALL- Anna Hallin & Olga Bergmann\, Dorothy Iannone\, Hrafna Jóna Ágústsdóttir\, Níels Hafstein\, Ragna Hermannsdóttir\, Rb Erin Moran\, Regn Sólmundur Evu\, Róska\, Svala Sigurleifsdóttir\, Stephen Lawson and Viktoria Gudnadottir. \nSýningarstjórar: Ynda Eldborg and Viktoría Guðnadóttir.

SUMMARY:On Display: Queer Above Others
DESCRIPTION:The exhibition On Display: Queer Above Others addresses queer art and queerness in art and museums. The exhibition is curated by art historian Ynda Eldborg\, and artist Viktoría Guðnadóttir. The exhibition spans works from The Living Art Museum’s collection\, selected by the curators’ queer eyes and years of experience\, as well as new works created by queer visual artists. In the autumn of 2021\, Ynda and Viktoría went through the collection of The Living Art Museum\, and selected works that can be seen or interpreted as queer. The artists were then invited to create new works that correspond to a number of the works that Ynda and Viktoría had pre-selected\, thus promoting and starting a visual dialogue with the queerness of works from the museum’s collection. The artists were free to select any work and create new work without any restrictions on their work or medium. The new works and the works from the collection are exhibited side by side. \nArtists: Anna Maggý\, Ari Logn\, BERGHALL- Anna Hallin & Olga Bergmann\, Dorothy Iannone\, Hrafna Jóna Ágústsdóttir\, Níels Hafstein\, Ragna Hermannsdóttir\, Rb Erin Moran\, Regn Sólmundur Evu\, Róska\, Svala Sigurleifsdóttir\, Stephen Lawson and Viktoria Gudnadottir. \nCurators: Ynda Eldborg and Viktoría Guðnadóttir.

SUMMARY:Amanda Riffo: House of Purkinje
DESCRIPTION:The eye is the organ that receives what we see. The brain processes the light\, takes in the information that captures our attention\, and produces images. Therefore\, only a part of what is visible is seen\, and only a small part of what we see captures our awareness. \n\n\nHouse of Purkinje\, Amanda Riffo’s solo exhibition\, is a staging of reality. The title refers to the Czech biochemist Jan Evangelista Purkyně who\, among other things\, discovered corresponding and multiple reflections of a single image that appear on the surface of the eye and from within it. Like multiple reflections of the self. \n  \nWith House of Purkinje\, Riffo draws parallels between the physiology of the eye and our awareness of the surrounding environment. She does this by combining the exhibition space with a film studio. Amanda has worked in the film industry almost as long as she has worked as an artist. In both fields\, she works with distorted objects\, fictional images and constant speculation about how we perceive our surroundings.

SUMMARY:Amanda Riffo: House of Purkinje
DESCRIPTION:Augað er líffærið sem tekur á móti því sem við sjáum. Heilinn vinnur úr ljósinu\, meðtekur upplýsingarnar sem fanga athygli okkar og framkallar myndir. Þannig sést aðeins hluti af því sem fyrir augu ber\, og þannig erum við aðeins meðvituð um lítinn hluta af því sem við sjáum. \n\n\nHouse of Purkinje\, einkasýning Amanda Riffo er sviðsetning á raunveruleikanum. Titillinn vísar til tékkneska lífefnafræðingsins Jan Evangelista Purkyně sem meðal annars uppgötvaði samverkandi og margfaldar speglanir af einni einstakri fyrirmynd sem birtast á yfirborði augans og innan úr því. Eins og margföld speglun sjálfsins. \nMeð House of Purkinje setur Amanda fram hliðstæður á milli lífeðlisfræði augans og meðvitundar okkar gagnvart umhverfinu. Þetta gerir hún með því að etja sýningarrýminu saman við kvikmyndaver\, en Amanda hefur starfað í kvikmyndaiðnaðinum næstum jafn lengi og hún hefur starfað sem myndlistarmaður. Á báðum sviðum vinnur hún með afbakaða hluti\, skáldaðar myndir og stöðugar vangaveltur um hvernig við skynjum umhverfi okkar.

SUMMARY:Anna Reutinger\, Brák Jónsdóttir\, Hugo Llanes og Sigurður Ámundason: Gottfariðillailla
DESCRIPTION:Sýningin leiðir saman verk listamannanna Anna Reutinger\, Brákar Jónsdóttur\, Hugo Llanes og Sigurðar Ámundasonar\, sem hér sýna saman í fyrsta sinn.

SUMMARY:Anna Reutinger\, Brák Jónsdóttir\, Hugo Llanes and Sigurður Ámundason: Goodgonebadwrong
DESCRIPTION:The exhibition brings together new works by artists Anna Reutinger\, Brákar Jónsdóttur\, Hugo Llanes and Sigurðar Ámundason. Goodgonebadwrong emerges from a close collaboration between the artists\,  and takes shape as a kind of a gathering place — the beginning or end of a slightly chaotic conversation where different voices intertwine and ideas take shape in the process. The exhibition takes an (un)pleasant position inside the belly of the great beast and brings forward fictional memories\, nature\, culture\, extinction\, soothing self affirmation — and a toast for a world without us! \n\n\n\n\n\nBiography \n\nAnna Reutinger tints social\, material and historical moments into colorful tales with many voices. Working with second hand textiles\, glass\, scrap metal\, natural dyes\, agricultural byproducts\, social encounters and distant histories\, she enacts a hands-on approach to research—highlighting craft as seed for social\, material and environmental sensitivity. From large-scale installations to performative workshops and film\, she invites others into a cave of potentials\, hand crafted to pull you belly outwards into the muck of collective imagining. She is a tutor in the Dirty Art Department at the Sandberg Instituut where she also received her M.A. in 2016 after a B.A. in Design Media Arts and Digital Humanities at UCLA in 2013. \n  \nBrák Jónsdóttir is an Icelandic visual artist. She earned her BA degree in visual art from the Iceland Academy of the Arts in 2021. Her work explores themes from prehistory to imagined futures\, narrating fictional events that breathe life into extinct creatures and otherworldly beings. Bridging gaps of knowledge with imaginative mythologies\, she creates totemic installations rooted in sculpture\, delving into the tension between the artificial and the natural. Brák’s works evoke tenderness\, humor\, and diverse worlds\, where sensuous hypotheses emerge from factual extrapolations. Crafting enigmatic narratives through bizarre ecosystems\, she ignites existential questions\, inviting audiences to ponder the mysteries of life’s ways. \n  \nHugo Llanes is an artist based in Iceland. Has a BA from Universidad Veracruzana and holds a MA in Fine Arts from the Iceland University of the Arts. Hugo Llanes’ œuvre depicts the social and political environments in which the artist evolves. In his more recent performances and video installations\, the artist puts emphasis on his personal worldview\, remembrance\, grief and inter-human and inter-species relationships. To depict these\, he employs artistic research and mediums such as maintenance art\, performance\, installation\, site-specific\, participatory art\, video art\, and extended painting. \n  \nSigurður Ámundason was born in 1986 and raised in Reykjavík\, Iceland. He graduated with a BA degree in fine arts at the Iceland Academy of Arts in 2012. Since then he has held eleven solo exhibitions\, participated in numerous group shows and performed countless performances. Ámundason uses drawing as his foundation medium but also creates installations\, sculptures\, video-art\, bookwork\, photography\, theatre and performance art.
