SUMMARY:Connective Tissue
DESCRIPTION:Guðrún Sigurðardóttir\, Inga Martell\, Sabine A. Fischer \nConnective tissue is the tissue that connects\, separates and supports all other forms of textures in the body. Connective tissues bind structures together\, form a framework and support for organs and the body as a whole\, store fat\, transport substances\, protect against disease\, and help repair damages. They occur throughout the body. They fill every intermediate part of our body. Connective tissue is essential for the body because it maintains organ shapes and serves as a water reservoir. \nWith this metaphor\, we want to explore the connectivity and materiality that binds us together\, that connects our art making and the world in which we place art. The connective tissue that connects the abstract and the concrete\, the real and the narrative\, the visible and the invisible. We want to discover the quality of transition. The transition of the space\, the air and the light in between\, their importance is not given much attention. Just as we often do not pay attention to the things that are naturally just there. \nVernissage/Opening day: Friday 8th of October\, 17 o´clock\, p.m. \nOpen on weekends: 14-17 o´clock\, 2 p.m.-5 p.m.

SUMMARY:Aleksi Jaakkola: Diagraphein - to mark out by line
DESCRIPTION:A simplified picturesque landscape with the mountainous horizon line\, soft\, blurry\, hiding the signs of everyday life. Barren and broken\, no location. It is an object – it is a line. \nDIAGRAPHEIN – “to mark out by line” is a presentation of the investigation where a horizon line is a motif for the creation of new topographies. \nThe principal images where the horizon lines are extracted are snapshots taken from a road trip in Iceland in 2018. In the process\, the visible line between sky and land is fragmented and constructed for new scapes.  \nThe horizon line is replicated and drawn multiple times using the line drawing technique together with silica gel experiments. Hence\, the liminal spaces are filled creating new topographies and complexity emerging again. \nThe exhibition consists of photographs\, ink pen line drawings and silica gel paintings. \nAleksi Jaakkola is a Finnish visual artist based in Iceland. Sensorial investigations of landscape\, places\, nature\, processes and phenomenons are the subject matter of his practice. Through his art\, Jaakkola likes to draw attention to relations between humans and nature. He has participated in various exhibitions\, collaborations and performed in festivals. He earned his Master’s degree in Contemporary Art and Visual Culture from Aalto University in 2017. \n  \nOpening hours: \nFri 11.3 12 – 18 \nSat – Sun 12 – 13.3\, 12 – 18 \nMon – Fri 14 -18.3 12 -16 \nSat – Sun 19 – 20.3 12 -18 \nMon – Fri 21 – 25.3 12 -16 \nSat – Sun 26 -27.3 12 – 18  \nMon – wed 28 -30.3 12 – 16 \nThu 31.3 (long Thurdsay) 12 – 20

SUMMARY:María Magdalena & María Sjöfn: Correlation
DESCRIPTION:The works of María Magdalena and María Sjöfn are often in a kind of dialogue\, as they often deal withsubjects with the same undertone. In their artworks they have both been working in areas as environmental art\, ecological- and social engagement art touching on exploration in times of the anthropocene. They have both been working towards the perception of the phenomenon of a vanishing glacier rather than mapping the glacier itself.\nRegarding this\, they would like to develop the mapping further in some kind of inner landscape perception of the outer glacial landscape. When those layers are examined in a new context the visual language can create a new perspective on the matter. \nIn Maria-Magdalena works she sees humankind and nature not as being isolated entities but as elements of the same large organism. Thus\, it is necessary to stop environmental exploitation\, if we want to ensure our survival. Her work covers abroad spectrum of media that includes photography\, video\, sound\, objects\, installation\, performance\, and interactive projects. \nIn María Sjöfn multidisciplinary works with forms of natural phenomena\, often taking the shape of installation and involving sculptural interventions such as video\, sound\, photography and drawing. María Sjöfn’s process of development begins with experimentation focusing on multifaceted perceptions of the environment\, and in particular the inner and outer contexts of space and matter. Sometimes not so obvious\, she is critically exploring the relation of the human being and the environment.

SUMMARY:María Magdalena & María Sjöfn: Correlation
DESCRIPTION:Verk Maríu Magdalenu og Maríu Sjafnar eru oft á tíðum í einskonar samtali þar sem þau fjalla oft um viðfangsefni með sama undirtón.

DESCRIPTION:Solveig Thoroddsen stundaði B.A. nám við Myndlistardeild LHÍ 2007-2010 og útskrifaðist með mastergráðu frá sama skóla árið 2015.

SUMMARY:Nadine Baldow: A Pleasure to be Alive
DESCRIPTION:The works in this show are dedicated to my dear friend Josefine Lehner\, who was moved by the Icelandic Landscape deeply.\nNadine Baldow’s practice is informed by the current geological era\, known as the Anthropocene\, where traces of human activity are embedded within planet earth. Are we still part of nature? Did estrangement from nature start with a fence? Did the first artificial boundary create a gap between man and nature?\nSince 2020\, Baldow’s site-specific sculptures are informed by the ongoing series of Landscape Investigations – TOPOPHILIA\, starting in the NorthWest of rural Ireland. Until now\, she investigated the rural\, but culturally impacted landscapes of Ireland\, Slovenia\, Lithuania\, and Iceland.\n“A PLEASURE TO BE ALIVE focuses on the bodily experience of being in landscape – with its pleasures and its harshness alike. The last three months\, I concentrated on repetitive rituals to be fully present in my body and in the environment. Besides the act of walking the land and exposing myself to every weather this Island has to offer – I meditated on natural phenomena in landscape and delved into rituals with hot and icy water.\nAll landscapes\, I’ve investigated so far – despite their beauty – carry a heavy human handprint. Iceland is no exception with its treeless land and the effects of livestock grazing\,but the power of nature is highly present in this geologically young landmass. During the process of walking the land and observing the challenging condition this young place creates\, I felt drawn to the presence of mortality in this landscape. My own existence\, my body feeling the land\, stands in contradiction to these materials\, such as bones\, sculls and horns. The remains of these dead beings indicate how these animals died – while some died of natural causes\, others found their death through direct human force.\nA PLEASURE TO BE ALIVE is a conglomerate of materials found in the volcanic landscapes of Iceland that tell stories about their pain and joy of existence.” Iceland\, April 2023\n\nBIO\nNadine Baldow (b. 1990\, Dresden\, Germany) is a visual artist based in Berlin whose work predominately addresses the complex relationship between “culture” and “nature” and their ongoing impact on each other.\nThe scenarios she builds through her site-specific sculptures and installations could be considered as philosophical thought experiments dealing with ecological issues. In addition to her sculptural practice\, the artist exposes herself to various situation of friction to explore her own relationship with nature\, such as shepherding a freely flock or living in a lonely hut in the woods.\nNadine Baldow studied with professor Eberhard Bosslet\, at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden after completing a woodcarving apprenticeship in the Alps – she completed her studies as “Meisterschüler”.\nShe has been scholarship holder of the artist-in-residence-program in the Himalayas in India (KYTA Foundation)\, Iceland (SIM)\, at Gozo Contemporary in Malta (the META Foundation)\, the National Park Sumava in Czech\, Leitrim Sculpture Centre (ArtsCouncil Ireland)\, the nature conservation island Vilm in Germany (German Federal Agency for Nature\, BfN)\, Urban Nation – museum for urban contemporary art in Berlin (Stiftung Berliner Leben)\, Halle 14 – the Center for Contemporary Arts in Leipzig\, Stiftung Künstlerdorf Schöppingen and in Seoul\, South Korea in cooperation with the Hansung University.
