SUMMARY:Ásmundur Sveinsson og Carl Milles
DESCRIPTION:Á sýningunni verða verk myndhöggvaranna Ásmundar Sveinssonar (1893-1982) og Carls Milles (1875-1955) frá Svíþjóð. Sýningin er liður í samstarfi Millesgården og Ásmundarsafns sem eiga það sameiginlegt að vera söfn tileinkuð lífi og starfi listamannanna tveggja. Carl Milles er einn virtasti myndhöggvari Svíþjóðar og líkt og Ásmundur gaf hann hús sitt\, vinnustofu og verk til þjóðar sinnar eftir sinn dag. Carl Milles var lærifaðir Ásmundar á námsárum hans í Stokkhólmi en árið 2020 voru hundrað ár liðin frá því að Ásmundur hóf nám við Konunglega sænska listaháskólann undir handleiðslu Milles. Á söfnunum tveimur eru varðveittar heimildir sem varpa ljósi á það hversu sterkum böndum Ásmundur og Milles bundust og töluverðan samhljóm má finna í ferli þeirra og verkum. Milles nýtti sér sögu og menningu eigin þjóðar sem innblástur í verk sín og á sama hátt hvatti hann Ásmund til þess að leita fanga í íslenska menningararfleið sem glögglega má sjá í verkum hans allan hans feril. Báðir lögðu þeir mikla áherslu á að listin ætti heima í almannarými og að þar nyti hún sín best þar sem flestir hefðu aðgang að henni. Ásmundur á flest útilistaverk í reykvísku borgarlandi auk þess sem þó nokkur verk hans er að finna víðar um landið. Verk Milles er jafnframt að finna á fjölmörgum stöðum í Svíþjóð og er hann sérstaklega þekktur fyrir magnaða gosbrunna sína og vatnaverur. Verk hans eru einnig að finna á fleiri stöðum í heiminum\, þarf af flest í Bandaríkjunum þar sem hann bjó lengi og kenndi. \nSýningarstjórar: Edda Halldórsdóttir og Sigurður Trausti Traustason

SUMMARY:Ásmundur Sveinsson and Carl Milles
DESCRIPTION:The exhibition  features the works of sculptors Ásmund Sveinsson (1893-1982) and Carls Milles (1875-1955) from Sweden and  is part of the collaboration between Millesgården Museum and Ásmundarsafn– both museums dedicated to the life and work of the two artists. Carl Milles is one of Sweden’s most respected sculptors and\, like Ásmundur\, he donated his house\, studio and work to the public after his death. Carl Milles was Ásmundur´s mentor during his student years in Stockholm. In 2020 it was 100 years since Ásmund started his studies at the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts under Milles’ guidance. The two museums have preserved records that shed light on how strong the bond between Ásmundur and Milles was\, and it can be found in their careers and works. Milles used the history and culture of his own nation as inspiration for his works\, and in the same way he encouraged Ásmund to seek inspiration in Icelandic cultural heritage\, which can clearly be seen in his works throughout his career. Both of them emphasised that art belongs in public spaces where most people have access to it. Ásmundur made  most of the outdoor artworks in the Reykjavík area\, as and some of his works can be found in other parts of the country. Milles’ work can also be found in many places in Sweden\, and he is especially known for his amazing fountains and water creatures. His works can also be found in other parts of the world\, most notably in the United States where he lived and taught for a long time. \nCurators: Edda Halldórsdóttir and Sigurður Trausti Traustason
