SUMMARY:Romain Causel: The Wandering of a Bricoleur
DESCRIPTION:“Now\, the characteristic of mythical thought is to express itself with the help of a repertoire whose composition is heterogeneous and which\, although extensive\, is still limited; nevertheless\, it must use it\, whatever the task it assigns itself because it has nothing else at hand.” \nClaude Lévi-Strauss\, The Savage Mind (1962) \n“The Wandering of a Bricoleur” is centered around a character created by the artist\, “The Bricoleur\,” as an exaggeration of himself. The term “bricoleur” has many meanings in French\, from handyman to tinkerer\, and sometimes even a trickster. In any case\, it means achieving results through improvised work\, subject to circumstances. The exhibition in Gallerí Úthverfa / Outvert Art Space is a collection of videos\, sculptures\, and objects that explore the world of this character without any obvious narrative\, all centered around the intriguing question\, “What is the normal use?” You are invited to explore a world of absurdity and put the pieces together. \nRomain Causel is an interdisciplinary artist based in Marseille\, France. He graduated from Iceland University of the Arts in 2021. His aesthetic is improvised\, low-functional\, and evolves over time. He draws inspiration and materials from discarded objects and abandoned spaces and the absurdity of our modern world\, often creating site-specific installations that reflect the environment. Through his humoristic and unshaped narrative\, he addresses environmental and political issues.
