SUMMARY:Ragnar Kjartansson: The Visitors
DESCRIPTION:The Visitors – an ode to friendship under the intonation of romantic desperation. A group of friends and musicians gather in the natural habitat of bohemians\, during the twilight hour\, in the faded splendor of Rokeby Farm in Upstate New York. The location becomes a scene for what Kjartansson calls a feministic nihilistic gospel-song: a multilayered portrait of the artist‘s friends\, an exploration of film-music\, which title derives from ABBA‘s final album\, The Visitors\, marked by separation and defeat. The music is written to a collage of sentences from Ásdís Sif Gunnarsdóttir´s video works and performances. \nThe Guardian named The Visitors the best artwork of the 21st century after it was first exhibited in the Migros Museum in Zürich 2012. The work has triumphed in all the major art museums of the world and has only once before been exhibited in Iceland\, in Kling & Bang 2012. \nRagnar Kjartansson (born 1976) studied at Iceland University of the Arts\, The Royal Academy in Stockholm and the Homemaking School in Reykjavík. His solo exhibitions have been held in respected art museum around the world. He represented Iceland at the Venice Biennale in 2009. \nCurator: Hlynur Hallsson. \nRagnar Kjartansson\, The Visitors\, 2012. Nine channel video installation with sound. Duration: 64 minutes. SUMMARY:Ragnar Kjartansson: The Underworld of Akureyri
DESCRIPTION:Ragnar Kjartansson is one of the most respected Icelandic artists – known for his video-work\, paintings\, performances and installations. Kjartansson exhibits a new art-piece especially created for the balcony of Akureyri Art Museum with a direct reference to the Akureyrian community\, in his own words: “In Akureyri everything is a little bit more OK than in other places.” \nA touch of sarcasm can often be detected in his work that never cease to surprise the viewer through a certain progression linked to the Icelandic national character\, history and the artist‘s existence within the community or outside it. \nKjartansson is born in Reykjavík 1976. He graduated from the Fine Art Deparment of Iceland University of the Arts in 2001 and was an exchange student at the Royal Academy in Stockholm in 2000. He also studied at the Homemaking School in Reykjavík 1996-97. Kjartansson has had solo exhibitions at several distinguished art museums and galleries around the world such as Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal\, Canada 2016\, Kunstmuseum in Stuttgart\, Germany 2019 and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York\, USA 2019.buy ivermectin Canada https://langleyrx.com/ivermectin.html no prescription\n He represented Iceland at the Venice Biennale in 2009. \nCurator: Hlynur Hallsson.

SUMMARY:Ragnar Kjartansson: Death is Elsewhere
DESCRIPTION:During the bright summer months\, the National Gallery of Iceland shows the video installation Death Is Elsewhere by Ragnar Kjartansson – filmed one Icelandic summer night\, when darkness never falls. This seven-channel work is one of the large-scale video installations which have been prominent in Ragnar‘s art in recent years\, where repetition\, time and space play important roles. In Death Is Elsewhere the artist returns to familiar territory\, where a romantic utopian spirit reigns. The ambiance is one of insouciance and melancholy as young couples wander through unvarying lowlands\, singing to a guitar accompaniment. The symmetrical picture and constantly repeated melody entice the observer into the work’s unending circularity\, shutting out impending doom while constantly alluding to it. \nDeath Is Elsewhere was filmed in the Eldhraun lava field in south Iceland\, near the volcano which erupted in the historic Skaftá Fires of the late 18th century\, causing devastation in Iceland and affecting climate worldwide. By this choice of location\, Ragnar references the eruption and the history\, and he also brings Icelandic art history into the work\, for instance by evoking the landscape paintings of Jón Stefánsson (1881-1962)\, and not least the light summer nights which were a favourite theme of Icelandic landscape artists in the early 20th century\, at the time of the pioneers of Icelandic art.\n \nRagnar Kjartansson was born in Reykjavík in 1976.buy sildenafil online https://www.mobleymd.com/wp-content/languages/new/sildenafil.html no prescription\n He studied at the Iceland University of the Arts 1997–2001\, and was an exchange student at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm. \nRagnar is the best-known Icelandic artist today\, and his works are displayed in prestigious museums around the world. He represented Iceland at the Venice Biennale in 2009\, and in 2019 his video installation The Visitors was chosen as the best art work of the 21st century by the Guardian. Death Is Elsewhere was first shown at the Metropolitan Museum in New York in 2019\, and this is the first time it has been exhibited in Iceland. \nDeath Is Elsewhere is dedicated to Carolee Schneemann.

SUMMARY:Eternal Recurrence
DESCRIPTION:In this extensive exhibition\, the works of Jóhannes S. Kjarval (1885-1972) create a thread which connects different periods in time. His art is displayed along with the works of artists who have been prominent on the Icelandic art scene in recent years. \nShortly after Kjarval’s death\, art historian Björn Th. Björnsson (1922-2007) wrote an article where he discusses Kjarval’s contribution to Icelandic art history and says that his work is “never bound to one particular time\, but always contains renascent memories.” This shows the great respect which Icelanders have had for Kjarval’s art\, but also the fact that at any given time\, the viewers bring their own experience and attitude to the viewing. Kjarval’s influence is unquestionable\, and in the exhibition\, the spotlight is on his influence on Icelandic artists. This can manifest in many different ways; be obvious and decisive or appear in a more ambiguous way and without intent. \nKjarval’s most common and beloved subject was Icelandic nature and landscape\, but he also painted many portraits and fantasy images where creatures and figures emerge\, and various nature phenomena are personified. The artworks on display here are created in diverse media\, expressing different approaches to these subjects. \nKjarval plays a large role in the history of Icelandic art and culture\, and he has been a role model and inspiration for generations of artists. His persona and life’s work surrounds us\, for good reason. Kjarval’s work is preserved and examined at Reykjavík Art Museum – Kjarvalsstaðir. Selected pieces are always on display and diverse exhibitions show his career in a wide context\, often with works from the museum collection or with special exhibitions that focus on particular aspects of his creative process. This exhibition places Kjarval’s work in a dialogue with the works of younger\, contemporary artists. Thus\, the exhibition invites us to become better acquainted with one of the greatest Icelandic artists\, but also the works of prominent contemporary artists who have made their mark on the Icelandic and international art scene. \nWe experience a break in the visual field in Ólafur Elíasson’s work. For the first time in Iceland\, a series of paintings which Ragnar Kjartansson painted in Eldhraun – inspired by a Kjarval painting in the artists possession – is on display. The video installation Lava&Moss by Steina is one of the more comprehensive works in the exhibition\, and there are new paintings by Eggert Pétursson. Among other artists who take part in this exhibition are Guðrún Einarsdóttir\, Hrafnkell Sigurðsson\, Kristján Guðmundsson\, Ragna Róbertsdóttir and Sigurður Guðjónsson. \n\nArtists:\n\n\n\n\n\nJóhannes S.
