SUMMARY:Margrét H. Blöndal: Ode to Join
DESCRIPTION:The exhibition Liðamót / Ode to Join comprises on the one hand drawings made with oil and powdered pigments\, and on the other three-dimensional pieces to be made directly into the the exhibition venue as a response to to the space. The Icelandic title Liðamót is a reference to the fact that where three or more joints come together\, movement results. In Margrét‘s works\, movement arises from partitions to be installed in the space\, the placement of the works and the relationship between them. On the other hand\, the English part of the title\, Ode to Join\, is an ode to connections\, where each sculpture or drawing becomes one element of a polyphonic music composition. Margrét‘s works transcend words\, and are imbued with beauty and a supernatural attraction – and indeed Margrét‘s installations have been likened to symphonic poems. \nMargrét H. Blöndal was born in 1970 in Reykjavík\, where she lives and works. She graduated in 1993 from the multimedia department of the Icelandic College of Arts and Crafts (precursor of the Iceland University of the Arts). \nIn 1997 she completed her MFA degree from Mason Gross School of Arts\, Rutgers University in New Jersey\, USA. During her long career Margrét has exhibited widely in Iceland and internationally since 1994.

SUMMARY:Experiment – Eider & Farmer
DESCRIPTION:An artistic research project on a symbiotic relationship between eider and farmer by a group of designers and artists from Denmark\, Iceland and Norway. Learning from this sustainable but gradually declining nordic heritage\, the project gives rise to innovation and production of new artworks. \n\n\nThe eider duck and the farmer have a mutually beneficial relationship. The farmer protects the duck during nesting and in return gathers the remaining down from the nest. The valuable down\, claimed to be the best insulating material in the world\, is a side-product that the duck leaves behind. The eider returns every year to the same farmer\, a life-time symbiotic relationship between duck and human. \nThe eider and eider farming are under threat by climate change as well as by changes in lifestyle\, with people moving from the farmlands into cities. Learning from this sustainable but gradually declining nordic heritage\, the project gives rise to innovation and production of new artworks. Fresh viewpoints emerge\, as well as thoughts on how we treat our environment and harvest our planet. \nExperiment – Eider and Farmer\, is more than an exhibition. It is an artistic research project that started in the year 2019\, with a group of outstanding artists from Denmark\, Iceland and Norway with diverse backgrounds in Design\, Architecture\, Fine Art\, Music\, Craft\, Fashion and Performing Arts. Since the eider stays on land only around 25 days per year\, the artists wanted to have more opportunities to visit the ducks so therefor stretched the research period over three years. They went on group excursions as well as on individual visits\, to get to know a broad spectrum of eider farmers\, their diverse methods and the eiders habitats. \nEider ducks make sounds as if they’ve just been told something interesting\, or even saucy. Ah-hoo\, Ah-hoo!! Like a group of gossiping ladies. It is easy to be charmed by this lovely chorus. We hope this project inspires you. May there be plenty of AH-HOO moments in the exhibition as well as the next time you come across an Eider. \n\nExperiment – Eider and Farmer will open in Hvelfing on 7th of May at 17:00 and run until 31st of July.  \n\nCurators: Hildur Steinþórsdóttir & Rúna Thors \nArtists:\nAnne Lass\, Lisbeth Burian & Rikke Houd\nArnhildur Pálmadóttir & Samuel T. SUMMARY:Abracadabra
DESCRIPTION:In this diverse exhibition\, new works by contemporary artists are presented especially with children and young people in mind. The works are all in the collection of the Reykjavík Art Museum. Presentation\, mediation and education aims to open up the world of art as it appears today for younger audiences. Along with the exhibition\, there is a rich program as well as digital dissemination. “Abracadabra” is a word deriving from ancient languages that means: What I say becomes a reality. This is a magic word that describes how artists’ ideas become works of art. \nThe Reykjavík Art Museum’s collection houses a large number of works of art\, with about seventeen thousand registered works and sketches of various kinds. When acquiring works of art into the collection\, a choice is made that reflects the diversity of artistic creation at any given time. The exhibition Abracadabra aims to share the main elements that are found in the creative field of today. What characterizes today’s art? What are the artists’ subjects\, methods\, materials and challenges? \n  \nListamenn \nAlicja Kwade \nAnna Júlía Friðbjörnsdóttir \nAnna Hallin \nAnna Líndal \nAuður Lóa Guðnadóttir \nBaldur Geir Bragason \nEgill Sæbjörnsson \nFritz Hendrik IV \nGuðný Guðmundsdóttir \nHeimir Björgúlfsson \nHildigunnur Birgisdóttir \nHildur Bjarnadóttir \nHrafnhildur Arnardóttir/Shoplifter \nHreinn Friðfinnsson \nKarin Sander \nKatrín Elvarsdóttir \nKatrín Sigurðardóttir \nKristján Steingrímur Jónsson \nLeifur Ýmir Eyjólfsson \nLogi Leó Gunnarsson \nMagnús Helgason \nMargrét H.
