SUMMARY:Hrafnhildur Arnardóttir / Shoplifter & Hrafnkell Sigurðsson: Thing
DESCRIPTION:Celestial Alchemy: The Stellar Confluence of Hrafnhildur Arnardottir and Hrafnkell Sigurdsson \nIn the luminous expanse of the gallery\, evoking the grandeur of an observatory\, there arises an ethereal rendezvous where the realms of inter space and reality intertwine\, beckoning to the curious soul. Here\, two virtuoso artists\, Hrafnhildur Arnardóttir and Hrafnkell Sigurdsson\, coalesce in a mesmerising dance of phenomenology and embodiment. \nArnardottir\, weaving her magic with an object oriented ontology\, brings forth masterpieces that echo the sacred and the animistic. Her works\, bathed in the gentle beam of illumination\, offer a tranquil transition between the tactile and the ethereal. They are the kinetic response to sensory data\, a requiem for the unexpressed\, resonating with the endlessness of our collective unconsciousness.\nAdjacent to this\, Sigurdsson’s artistry takes us on a transit through time and dimension. His creations\, reflecting the relativity of perception and the visceral nature of experience\, capture moments of both catastrophic meltdown and pure joy. In his pieces\, we sense the glitch in our matrix\, the sizmistic shifts in our understanding\, and the ebbs and flows of our frontal lobe. As our gaze meets these focal points\, it’s akin to an encounter with an alternate entity\, a game changer that channels both the micro intricacies and the vastness of parallel universes. \nThe fusion of their talents serves as a prism\, refracting not just light\, but also thoughts\, emotions\, and an entire spectrum of experiences. Their artworks act as transitors\, gateways into dimensions where particles of intuition dance with waves of emotion\, allowing for telepathic-like connections and a sub-communication hinting at the infinite destination of understanding. With every piece\, there’s an evident force and energy\, an ectoplasmic resonance that challenges our paradigms. The tranquil vortexes created offer moments of epiphany\, as if we’re on the precipice of a new frontier. It’s as though we’re tethered by an umbilical link to the very core of the art\, pulled into its warp\, oscillating between the microscopic details and macroscopic vastness. Yet\, this isn’t merely a subscription to an artistic vision. It’s a temporal transportal\, a melding of materialized ideas and subconscious sensors\, bridging the conscious to the para-conscious states. Such is the profundity that words like ‘transcendence’ and ‘fluidity’ seem almost elementary in their description. In this serene confluence\, as we navigate the gallery\, moments of intiumate connection and intense contemplation punctuate our journey. Art here is more than visual; it’s an experience\, a testament to the transformative power of collective genius. The amalgamation of Arnardottir’s fluid forms and Sigurdsson’s vast vistas elevates the viewer\, ushering them into an odyssey that defies the finitude of mere existence. In culmination\, this celestial alchemy stands as a beacon\, a testament to the promise of art’s capability to redefine\, recalibrate\, and reimagine. One leaves not just with an impression but an imprint\, a lasting resonance of having glimpsed the very edge of artistic immeasurabilty.

SUMMARY:Hrafnkell Sigurðsson: Recondestruction
DESCRIPTION:“In a flash\, the debris had been arranged with unique\, artistic balance. Nature had crushed our lives into pieces but the artist had put them together again\, creating a kind of cairns\, or pillars\, memorials to the fragile reality of life\, elaborate monuments that looked like prototypes of explosions: Big Bang in its infancy\, before things went flying into space”. \nHallgrímur Helgason\, writer \n“The story behind the artwork is usually not very relevant; the artwork itself shows us all we need to understand it. Artworks\, though\, also tell stories. Hrafnkell has told us stories about what happens to our trash once we have taken it out to the bin. Now he reminds us that nature is not impressed by us putting up ski lodges in its path. In its eyes\, we are probably all just trash“. \nJón Proppé\, Art Historian  \nHRAFNKELL SIGURÐSSON (1969) was born in Reykjavík\, where he commenced his studies before proceeding in Maastricht\, before moving to London in the early nineties. He completed his MFA at Goldsmiths College in 2002. Sigurdsson has exhibited worldwide\, from Europe to East Asia\, Tasmania to the Louvre\, and he was granted the prestigious Icelandic Visual Art Award in 2007.

SUMMARY:Eternal Recurrence
DESCRIPTION:In this extensive exhibition\, the works of Jóhannes S. Kjarval (1885-1972) create a thread which connects different periods in time. His art is displayed along with the works of artists who have been prominent on the Icelandic art scene in recent years. \nShortly after Kjarval’s death\, art historian Björn Th. Björnsson (1922-2007) wrote an article where he discusses Kjarval’s contribution to Icelandic art history and says that his work is “never bound to one particular time\, but always contains renascent memories.” This shows the great respect which Icelanders have had for Kjarval’s art\, but also the fact that at any given time\, the viewers bring their own experience and attitude to the viewing. Kjarval’s influence is unquestionable\, and in the exhibition\, the spotlight is on his influence on Icelandic artists. This can manifest in many different ways; be obvious and decisive or appear in a more ambiguous way and without intent. \nKjarval’s most common and beloved subject was Icelandic nature and landscape\, but he also painted many portraits and fantasy images where creatures and figures emerge\, and various nature phenomena are personified. The artworks on display here are created in diverse media\, expressing different approaches to these subjects. \nKjarval plays a large role in the history of Icelandic art and culture\, and he has been a role model and inspiration for generations of artists. His persona and life’s work surrounds us\, for good reason. Kjarval’s work is preserved and examined at Reykjavík Art Museum – Kjarvalsstaðir. Selected pieces are always on display and diverse exhibitions show his career in a wide context\, often with works from the museum collection or with special exhibitions that focus on particular aspects of his creative process. This exhibition places Kjarval’s work in a dialogue with the works of younger\, contemporary artists. Thus\, the exhibition invites us to become better acquainted with one of the greatest Icelandic artists\, but also the works of prominent contemporary artists who have made their mark on the Icelandic and international art scene. \nWe experience a break in the visual field in Ólafur Elíasson’s work. For the first time in Iceland\, a series of paintings which Ragnar Kjartansson painted in Eldhraun – inspired by a Kjarval painting in the artists possession – is on display. The video installation Lava&Moss by Steina is one of the more comprehensive works in the exhibition\, and there are new paintings by Eggert Pétursson. Among other artists who take part in this exhibition are Guðrún Einarsdóttir\, Hrafnkell Sigurðsson\, Kristján Guðmundsson\, Ragna Róbertsdóttir and Sigurður Guðjónsson. \n\nArtists:\n\n\n\n\n\nJóhannes S.
