DESCRIPTION:Rakel McMahon will exhibit a site-specific sculpture\, inspired by the Greek myth of Echo and Narcissus. The work also refers to Jung´s ideas on the unconscious\, childhood memories and dreams.\nI see the stars but I do not see the world\nAll colors fade and dissolve in the dark\nThe underpass accommodates only shadow and light\nIn the outlines nothing but the mirror image of others\nWhat propels the echo that once had a voice? What happens to a hand that wilts\, vanishes\, fades away?\n(leaving behind only traces of touch)\nWhat is the source of visions in a dream? DESCRIPTION:Edith Hammar: Well-being in Gallery Underpass.\n\n\nOn the forth of august Edith Hammar´s exhibition Well – being opens in Gallery Underpass on Hverfisgata 76 in Reykjavik. \n\n\nEdith Hammar (b. 1992 Helsinki) is a visual artist who is known for large and powerful ink drawings made either on paper or as wall pieces. Their drawings feature recurring motifs which are in many ways autobiographical\, focusing on the experiences and images of gender non-conforming characters\, socialising\, relaxing\, and getting dressed or undressed in various casual but utopian settings. \nThe often large-scale drawings invite the viewer into a sort of portal\, a window onto a safe and blissful dimension where both artist and onlooker can test out desires and needs. \n\n\nEveryday objects take centre-stage in these fantasies\, suddenly lighting a candle nestled between ass cheeks can make total sense\, or shaving someone’s head is the most romantic thing in the world.\n\nIn 2020 Hammar released their debut comic book Homo Line (Förlaget M) in Finland\, and as of 2022 their works are in the permanent collection of Modern Museum of Art in Stockholm. They hold a BA in fine art from the Royal Academy of Fine arts in Stockholm.\n\n\nFor their exhibition in Gallery Underpass Edith Hammar has created new work which is drawn directly on the walls of the gallery space. \nWell-being opens as a part of Reykjavík Pride 2022. \n\nThe exhitibition is ongoing until the end of October.
