SUMMARY:Elísabet Brynhildardóttir: Hesitant Line
DESCRIPTION:Drawing involves our first visual interpretation of our surroundings\, long before we learn to write\, and so it functions as a material projection of the imagination\, of our thoughts. There are not many mediums that are able to capture the immediacy of the artist’s vision as drawing can – forming a direct link with our line of thought and simultaneously illustrating the relationship between a human being and instrument. At the exhibition\, Elísabet Brynhildardóttir observes time and feeling\, as well as the experience of drawing\, bringing to mind the words of artist Richard Serra: “There is no way to make a drawing– there is only drawing.” \nElísabet Brynhildardóttir (b. 1983) works in a variety of mediums\, most notably drawings and sculptures. Through classical materials she explores our relationship to the artwork and the artistic process whilst contemplating ideas of impermanence\, time and material hierarchy. Alongside her artistic practice she is an active member of the artist-run space Kling & Bang. Her works have been shown in i8 Gallery\, the Akureyri Art Museum\, Kling & Bang\, Skaftfell Center for Visual Arts and The Living Art Museum\, amongst other places. Elísabet graduated in 2007 with a BA from The University College for the Creative Arts\, United Kingdom.
