SUMMARY:Auður Lóa Guðnadóttir
DESCRIPTION:Auður Lóa Guðnadóttir (b. 1993) is an artist that plays on the border of the objective and the subjective\, of sculpture and drawing\, art and reality. She works with mundane phenomena\, figurative imitation\, and the visual language of both ancient and recent history. She seeks to activate the artwork itself\, but always as an object in its own social environment. She continues on this path in the exhibition Predecession as she focuses on household items and decorative objects from various points in history. \nAuður Lóa graduated from the fine arts department of Iceland University of the Arts in 2015. Since then she has worked independently as well as in collaboration with other artists; she has been involved in group exhibitions such as Leikfimi in Safnasafnið\, Pressures of The Deep in The Living Art Museum\, and Everything at The Same Time in Hafnarborg. She was the recipient of the Motivational Award of the Icelandic Visual Arts Council in 2018\, for the exhibition Diana Forever which she curated and participated in. In the spring of 2021 she opened her first big solo exhibition\, Yes / No\, in Gallery D at the Reykjavík Art Museum that consisted of more than one hundred Papier-mâché sculptures.

SUMMARY:Abracadabra
DESCRIPTION:In this diverse exhibition\, new works by contemporary artists are presented especially with children and young people in mind. The works are all in the collection of the Reykjavík Art Museum. Presentation\, mediation and education aims to open up the world of art as it appears today for younger audiences. Along with the exhibition\, there is a rich program as well as digital dissemination. “Abracadabra” is a word deriving from ancient languages that means: What I say becomes a reality. This is a magic word that describes how artists’ ideas become works of art. \nThe Reykjavík Art Museum’s collection houses a large number of works of art\, with about seventeen thousand registered works and sketches of various kinds. When acquiring works of art into the collection\, a choice is made that reflects the diversity of artistic creation at any given time. The exhibition Abracadabra aims to share the main elements that are found in the creative field of today. What characterizes today’s art? What are the artists’ subjects\, methods\, materials and challenges? \n  \nListamenn \nAlicja Kwade \nAnna Júlía Friðbjörnsdóttir \nAnna Hallin \nAnna Líndal \nAuður Lóa Guðnadóttir \nBaldur Geir Bragason \nEgill Sæbjörnsson \nFritz Hendrik IV \nGuðný Guðmundsdóttir \nHeimir Björgúlfsson \nHildigunnur Birgisdóttir \nHildur Bjarnadóttir \nHrafnhildur Arnardóttir/Shoplifter \nHreinn Friðfinnsson \nKarin Sander \nKatrín Elvarsdóttir \nKatrín Sigurðardóttir \nKristján Steingrímur Jónsson \nLeifur Ýmir Eyjólfsson \nLogi Leó Gunnarsson \nMagnús Helgason \nMargrét H. SUMMARY:Brúnn\, bleikur\, banani
DESCRIPTION:We are young\, we learn a song about the colors. Not all colors but enough to be able to take part in the conversation. A melody\, words\, a beginning and an ending\, about something we see. Maybe we are introduced to a specific color for the first time\, either the word or the color\, what we connect the word with. You have probably heard the song before you sing it yourself. This is an experience; learning is an experience. We learn from experience. We learn the colors with a song. \nIf we can learn the colors with a song\, what else can we do? Can we learn numbers with a trumpet? Learn about computers with tree branches? About space from keys? Some of this is obvious\, of course. Like when you learned about pain with a patch of ice on the sidewalk\, or learned about cars when it broke down\, or learned about dreams from death. Some connections are deliberate\, some are accidental connections. \nBecause there is always also something more. We learn something maybe first and foremost: the names of the colors. But in the song there is not only brown and pink\, but also a banana\, and then an orange – which speaks. Color only ever exists as something\, not in the air as simply color\, ok. This is something to remember\, yes\, but then also to interpret. Maybe there is then nothing first and foremost. Maybe you are instead learning how to manipulate your vocal chords\, or how to rhyme\, or how to work together and sing in a group. Maybe it is the alliteration; maybe we are learning first and foremost how we alliterate. I shall not say\, it is not for me to decide. \n  \nAnna Hrund Másdóttir (b. 1981) is an Icelandic artist living and working in Reykjavík. She completed her BSc in Mathematics at the University of Iceland in 2006 and a BA in Fine Art at the Icelandic Academy of Arts in 2010. In 2012 she was a student at the Mountain School of Arts in Los Angeles\, and finished her MFA in Fine Arts at the California Institute of the Arts in 2016. Anna Hrund has exhibited widely\, both in group shows and solo\, e.g. in the Reykjavík Art Museum\, Kling&Bang\, Kópavogur Art Museum\, Living Art Museum\, Harbinger and Kunstschlager. \nAuður Lóa Guðnadóttir (b. 1993) is an artist that plays on the border of the objective and the subjective\, of sculpture and drawing\, art and reality. She works with mundane phenomena\, figurative imitation\, and the visual language of both ancient and recent history. She graduated with a BS degree in Psychology/Anthropology at Loyola University Chicago where she focused on Sensory Systems\, Perception\, and Evolutionary Psychology. She has 20 years of experience working in visual and interaction design and as Creative Director for a major tech company in San Francisco. She studied ceramics for 3 years at the Lincoln Square Pottery Studio in Chicago. The form her work takes is driven largely by process in relation to experimentation with material\, while content is often informed by environmental influences based on residency or show location. Her body of work\, while reinventing itself per show\, also carries underlying themes tied to an evolution of psyche\, mental and emotional struggles\, transitory states\, the supernatural\, and an evaluation of the formation of all manner of bonds within and between self and society. She has exhibited in Chicago\, Los Angeles\, Hong Kong\, Reykjavík and held her first solo exhibition in New York this year at Padre Gallery. \n

SUMMARY:Limitations
DESCRIPTION:Group exhibition works by North Icelandic artists. \nThis is the fourth biennale\, an exhibition of works by artists fr om North Iceland\, held at Akureyri Art Museum. This time with special theme: Limitations – obviously referring to the state of the world these days. Participants apply to a call from Akureyri Art Museum and a special jury selects the works that will be exhibited. Those are works from 17 different \nartists\, of the 44 that applied. Jury members were Haraldur Ingi Haraldsson artist and project manager at the Akureyri Art Museum\, Hlynur Hallsson Museum director and Vigdís Rún Jónsdóttir art historian. How well one can connect the works to the exhibition title varies a lot\, with some created especially for the exhibition while others are older. Artistic\ninterpretation of the concept can of course also be very diverse. \nA catalogue is published and it will be interesting to compare it to older catalogues to follow the trends and developments in art from North Iceland. The aim is surely to present different approaches and ideas from artists in the area. Jón B. K. Ransu\, visual artist and scholarly writer\, writes in his introduction in the catalogue: “The title of the exhibition is Limitations and it is held in a time when a pandemic has raged for well over a year. During this time the concept of limitations has obtained a tangible meaning since most things are restricted; number of people meeting\, how close one is to the next person\, and number of people gathering – all having strong influence on our lives.\nThe title of the exhibition\, Limitations\, refers to the state created by the pandemic\, but also plays with the idea\, since theme exhibitions are always limited in their nature. We can\, for instance\, say that the selection of artworks f or the exhibition is based on certain limitations and that participation open only to artists from a particular area is a limitation in itself.” \nThe exhibition gives an insight into the diverse flora of visual art that is connected to North Iceland and in general. This biennale has potential for being a foundation for research and creations within the frame of visual arts as well as a motivation and opportunity. This is one of the summer exhibitions at Akureyri Art Museum since guests at the museum\, both local and from abroad\, want to see local art. The exhibition received a grant from the Icelandic Museum Fund. \nArtists:\nAðalheiður S.
