SUMMARY:Aðalheiður Valgeirsdóttir: Nature draws itself
DESCRIPTION:The exhibition “Nature Draws itself” presents paintings of natural landscapes and environments utilizing colorful hues and natural\, geometric forms. As in her previous works\, Aðalheiður looks for inspiration in nature\, and processes which straddle the boundaries between the real and the conceptual. She places an emphasis on surfaces\, substrates\, shapes\, textures\, lines\, color and light. The works are made in Aðalheiður’s studio in the south of Iceland\, where the ever-changing nature constantly provides new perspectives. \nIn her works\, we experience a certain chaos in the vegetation that takes shape. Upon closer inspection\, we perceive a system in the natural structures of plants\, branches\, stems and grasses – an abstract design where branches weave together and stretch out in a lively play of lines. Foreground and background play together and form a natural depth and transience\, a kind of eternal pattern or root system where vegetation\, water and sky come together. The question arises of what is the beginning and what is the end. \nAðalheiður is an artist and independent art critic and curator. She graduated from the graphic art department of Iceland’s School of Art and Handicrafts in 1982 and has been working as an artist ever since. She has held numerous solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions in Iceland and abroad. Aðalheiður completed her BA and MA degrees in Fine Art from the University of Iceland and has worked on various projects in the field\, including as a teacher\, writer and curator.

SUMMARY:Solander 250: A Letter from Iceland and Paradise Lost - Daniel Solander’s Legacy
DESCRIPTION:The exhibition Solander 250: A Letter from Iceland is held in remembrance of one of the first foreign scientific expeditions to Iceland\, in 1772\, i.e.\, 250 years ago. On this journey was one of Carl von Linné‘s apostles\, the Swedish natural scientist Daniel Solander. Among the things Solander and his fellow travellers recorded in Iceland were nature\, culture\, traditions\, and clothing. Ten Icelandic graphic artists will interpret these events from 1772 and how the nation and the country have changed since then. \nSimultaneously the exhibition Paradise Lost – Daniel Solander’s Legacy. will be opened. Solander was the main botanist on the HMS Endeavor on the first European expedition to Australia. The exhibition has already been set up in New Zealand\, Australia\, and Sweden. The two exhibitions thus form a unique dialogue between the Arctic and the Pacific through Daniel Solander’s travels. The two exhibitions are the collaborative project of the Swedish embassy in Iceland and the Icelandic Printmakers Association. \nPARTICIPANTS \nSOLANDER 250: BRÉF FRÁ ÍSLANDI: Anna Líndal\, Aðalheiður Valgeirsdóttir\, Daði Guðbjörnsson\, Gíslína Dögg Bjarkadóttir\, Guðmundur Ármann Sigurjónsson\, Iréne Jensen\, Laura Valentino\, Soffía Sæmundsdóttir\, Valgerður Björnsdóttir and Viktor Hannesson. \nPARADISE LOST – Daniel Solander’s Legacy: Sharnae Beardsley Dagmar Dyck\, Tabatha Forbes\, John McLean\, Alexis Neal\, Jo Ogier\, Jenna Packer\, John Pusateri\, Lynn Taylor og Michel Tuffery.
