SUMMARY:R. Blair Sullivan: Wick
DESCRIPTION:With a research-based\, multidisciplinary approach to mark-making\, R. Blair Sullivan links seemingly disparate histories to conjure the surreal realities that exist within us and around us. \nWith new wall-based sculptures and a return to an ongoing series of site-specific\, performance-based drawings\, Wick draws from evolutionary history to relish in the interconnectedness between our biological and built environments.

SUMMARY:Ryan Mrozowski: Eyes Like Pond
DESCRIPTION:Featuring paintings and sculptural wall works\, Eyes Like Ponds highlights Mrozowski’s signature systematic approach to painting. The artist’s immersive language\, which is rooted in visual and linguistic puzzles\, frequently uses botanical subjects to explore elements of presence\, absence\, and perception. \nFoliage\, fruit\, and letters become abstracted in Mrozowski’s compositions\, as the artist crops and repeats his motifs. The resulting lyrical patterning disrupts the traditional still-life and often reimagines nature with methodical order. \nThe repetition within the compositions is also reflected in the doubling of canvases\, as seen in Mrozowski’s pendants. By masking fauna with saturated areas of color\, Mrozowski provokes an optical oscillation for the viewer\, as one’s mind strives to connect the two paintings into a single image. Imbued with vibrancy\, the artist’s diptychs create a distorted mirroring effect that can be found throughout his practice. \nIn Mrozowski’s language paintings\, the text acts as a disruptor to his images\, similarly to the artist’s use of pattern play. The letters can be deciphered into words quickly – eyes\, yes\, on\, no\, noon – as linguistic associations become apparent. As with much of his practice\, Mrozowski’s word paintings possess a digital quality\, with his analog style paying subtle homage to the technology of typing\, cutting\, and pasting. \n\n\nRyan Mrozowski was born in 1981 in Pennsylvania\, and lives and works between Hudson and Brooklyn\, New York\, USA. He earned his MFA from the Pratt Institute\, New York\, in 2005\, and his BFA from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2003. His work has been the subject of exhibitions at international venues including Galerie Nordenhake (Mexico City\, Stockholm\, Berlin)\, Ratio 3 (San Francisco)\, Hannah Hoffman Gallery (Los Angeles)\, Simon Lee (London) and Chapter (New York). This is his first exhibition with i8 Gallery.

SUMMARY:Edith Hammar: Well-being
DESCRIPTION:Edith Hammar: Well-being in Gallery Underpass.\n\n\nOn the forth of august Edith Hammar´s exhibition Well – being opens in Gallery Underpass on Hverfisgata 76 in Reykjavik. \n\n\nEdith Hammar (b. 1992 Helsinki) is a visual artist who is known for large and powerful ink drawings made either on paper or as wall pieces. Their drawings feature recurring motifs which are in many ways autobiographical\, focusing on the experiences and images of gender non-conforming characters\, socialising\, relaxing\, and getting dressed or undressed in various casual but utopian settings. \nThe often large-scale drawings invite the viewer into a sort of portal\, a window onto a safe and blissful dimension where both artist and onlooker can test out desires and needs. \n\n\nEveryday objects take centre-stage in these fantasies\, suddenly lighting a candle nestled between ass cheeks can make total sense\, or shaving someone’s head is the most romantic thing in the world.\n\nIn 2020 Hammar released their debut comic book Homo Line (Förlaget M) in Finland\, and as of 2022 their works are in the permanent collection of Modern Museum of Art in Stockholm. They hold a BA in fine art from the Royal Academy of Fine arts in Stockholm.\n\n\nFor their exhibition in Gallery Underpass Edith Hammar has created new work which is drawn directly on the walls of the gallery space. \nWell-being opens as a part of Reykjavík Pride 2022. \n\nThe exhitibition is ongoing until the end of October.

SUMMARY:FROM THE SHORE TO THE MUDPOOL
DESCRIPTION:FROM THE SHORE TO THE MUDPOOL \n\nExhibition curated by SPIT Collective (Natasja Loutchko\, Marta Orlando\, Clémentine Roy) \n05.08.22:  CONCERT at 8:30 pm\n  GERTRUDE & THE FLOWERS. The Poetry Punk band\n06.08.22:  LIVE SESSION from 22:30 -0:00   \n\n  Hooops Garden on RADIO CASHMERE*\n\n\n\nLet´s start with the  act of walking\, let´s take as metaphor the desire path\, which is often referred to  the realm of  transportation planning\, and also known as a game trail\, social trail\, fishermen trail\, herd path\, cow path\, elephant path\, goat track\, pig trail\, use trail\, and bootleg trail and  is a path created as a consequence of erosion caused by human and non human traffic. The path usually represents the shortest or most easily navigated route between an origin and destination. Desire paths emerge as shortcuts where constructed paths take a circuitous route\, have gaps\, or are non-existent. Images of desire paths have been employed as a metaphor for anarchism\, intuitive design\,  individual creativity\, and the wisdom of the crowds.  Let´s walk around without going anywhere\, in a constant state of flow\, learning from the landscape\, making sounds and echoing the nature. \n  \nAnd once we start to trace these lines\, intuitively or pragmatically let´s look back at few decades ago\, when during the 70´s in New York\, artists and queer were walking the lines of the Waterfront Piers\, exploring the boundaries of experimentations and desire\, suspended between water and concrete\, living a breathing zone; these outsiders of the society were  all going to the Piers to break away  from the normativity and seeking for deviation.  Walking  on the edge of the city\, where things have broken down\, the ruins of capitalism represented by these abandoned warehouses are just a memory today\, sublimated into a naked phantom. We wanted to talk about this memory\, this ghost\, creating a link between two different places\, a displacement of intentions which gather together artists and writers and their practices  linked with Queer culture and Cruising\,  as aesthetic method and act of reclaiming spaces and territories through wandering. Here the function of Cruising\, well known in the Queer community will turn into a conceptual action\, setting a relation between the factory in Hjalteyri and the Waterfront Piers in NYC. \n  \nThe  artists will display through different mediums and different approaches pieces\, performance\, readings\, writings or walking in order to dialogue with the space. The factory (and the corpus of works) will be at the same time main actor and spectator of the show and the relation between the inside and outside of the building will flip conceptually as a Möbius strip. We investigate the space with several perspectives\, as artists\, curators\, wanderer\, set in motion a shift of roles which offers a heterogeneous point of view\, and a visionary reactivation of the Ghost . The objects of our gaze become the subjects that look back at the Piers\, and look ahead at Verksmiðjan. \n  \nStarting from this Heterotopia\, we will deal with the phantom of a place that doesn’t ́t exist anymore\, yet its traces and ruins can be displayed elsewhere in order to reactivate its Genius Loci\, and the urge to claim functional and ephemeral spaces dealing with topics from Queer Ecology\, drawing lines between the wilderness and domestication of the outside\, and building up a Lesbian Cosmology related with Cruising which never been a lesbian practice\, or in general as female identity practice. Moreover\, the ultimate intentions is to put in relation outcasts of the normalised society\,  in order to launch a round table of discussion and research\, formulate questions without expecting strict answers\, or answer blurry questions around perception of the public space\, wherever and whenever was negated to queer or women\, through paradoxes\, desires\, visions alongside the reference of the Waterfront Piers as archetype of human and artistic expression.

SUMMARY:ÚR FJÖRU Í DRULLUPOLL
DESCRIPTION:ÚR FJÖRU Í DRULLUPOLL\n\n\n\n\nSýningarstjórn SPIT Collective (Natasja Loutchko\, Marta Orlando\, Clémentine Roy) \n  \n05.08.22:  TÓNLEIKAR at 20:30\n  GERTRUDE & THE FLOWERS\n06.08.22:  LIVE SESSJÓN frÁ 22:30 – 00:00   \n\n  Hooops Garden á RADIO CASHMERE\n\n\n  \nVið skulum byrja á að skoða athöfnina að ganga út frá metafórunni löngunarslóð e: desire path; hugtak sem er yfirleitt notað innan umferðarskipulags en á líka við um sjálfsprottna göngustíga\, veiðimannastíga\, slóða hjarðardýra\, kúastíga\, fílaslóð\, geitaslóð\, fjárstíga\, ómerktar gönguleiðir og slóð veiðidýrsins\, sú sem veiðimenn fylgja þegar þeir leita uppi bráðina\, slóðar sem myndast þar sem dýr og menn eru sífellt að troða jarðveginn niður frá einum stað til annars. Rúnturinn sem er þekkt fyrirbæri í menningu hinsegin fólks gegnir hér því hlutverki að vera hugmyndaleg athöfn sem tengir saman Verksmiðjuna á Hjalteyri og The Waterfront Piers í New York.

DESCRIPTION:From one room to an elsewhere\nBlack and empty\nFull of separate matters\nWorlds within a space\nEmerging \n„Photographs are essentially the materiality of a past reality\, though when looking at them\, the realms they invite us into are incredibly present. I see them as doors for us to open\, so that narratives emerge\, creating inner travels within the mind. Photographs are illusions but still\, it is the most natural response to believe in their realness and dive into them. \nDisrupted photographs\, conceived as fluid matter\, escaping from settled expectations\, are on display. They are staged to be passed through\, moved\, observed while their potential meanings are shaping with you.“ \nClaire Paugam is a multidisciplinary French artist (b.1991)\, who lives and works in Reykjavik and a recipient of the Motivational Award 2020 delivered by the Icelandic Art Prize. After graduating from the Master of Fines Arts program of the Iceland University of the Arts in 2016\, Claire has exhibited in Iceland and abroad\, such as the Young Art Biennale in Moscow (2016)\, The Icelandic Photography Festival at Gerðarsafn Art Museum (2018) and had a solo exhibition part of the D-Hall series at the Reykjavik Art Museum (2021). SUMMARY:Claire Paugam: Essentially Untitled
DESCRIPTION:Sýningin „Essentially untitled“ er einkasýning eftir Claire Paugam sem samanstendur af innsetningum og skúlpúturm sem voru skapaðir sérstaklega fyrir rými Ásmundarsalar.

SUMMARY:Arkíf horfinna verka
DESCRIPTION:Safneign Nýlistasafnsins er fyrir löngu orðin lifandi goðsögn\, en í henni leynast óleystar ráðgátur sem nú taka yfir sýningarrými safnsins í Marshallhúsinu.

SUMMARY:Archive of Missing Artworks
DESCRIPTION:The Living Art Museum collection has become a living legend\, but it contains unsolved mysteries which will now become the focus of the museum’s exhibition space in the Mashall house. The aim of the Archive of Missing Artworks is to publicly perform a comprehensive collection assessment while searching for the solutions to these mysteries. Guests are invited to participate in the inquiry and search for answers. The project will take over the exhibition space in the Marshall House from 9 July to 7 August this summer. At the same time\, we will start recording material for the Nýló channel\, a new podcast service that will launch in the summer. The Archive of Missing Artworks works will continue in the museum’s collection space in Völvufell for the following year. \n\n\nWhat could have happened to the missing artworks? Where are they? Were they returned to previous owners? Transferred to another storage? Were they loaned for exhibition and never returned? Did they suffer irreversible damage? Are there any photographs of the works? Has anything been written about them? When was the last time they were shown? And what about the works we don’t know anything about? Where did they come from? Who is the artist? Do you have information for us? We invite you to join us in creating the Archive of Missing Artworks. \n  \nThe Living Art Museum’s Collection grew rapidly from the museum’s founding in 1978 and counts close to 3000 pieces today. At the inception the guiding principle was artists’ dissidence against a perceived indifference of public art institutions toward contemporary art. As a result\, the collection is unique in many ways. It represents a history of development in Icelandic art from the 1970s to today but also includes works by a multitude of international and renown artists. The collection consists exclusively of donations\, most often from artists donating their own work. \n  \nCollections managers in Nýló through the years have encountered mysteries in the storage\, artworks that cannot be found\, orphaned works or completely unknown ones. With the Archive of Missing Artworks\, the aim is to conduct a foundational collections assessment and document the lost artworks and record their contextual metadata. The project entails an inspection of every shelf\, drawer and storage area with regard to the documented storage location on the online database Sarpur as well as paper documents for every piece that has been donated to the collection. \n  \nThe museum holds two archive collections; the Archive of Artist Run Initiatives and the Performance Archive\, as well as an archive of internal affairs\, but the final phase of this projects will result in the addition of the Archive of Missing Artworks. This will contain comprehensive documentation of the artworks that are considered lost. The byproduct of the archives development will be the collections assessment and further information on mysterious or orphaned works in the collection. \n  \nBy collecting documentation and metadata on the missing artworks\, they will be reclaimed as elements of the archive\, while they are searched for physically in the assessment. By opening this side of the museum work to guests\, a delicate side of the institutional workflow is exposed and the public is asked to participate as researchers. \n  \nThe first phase of this project will take over the museum’s exhibition space in the Marshall House\, where it will be jump started with the assistance of museum guests and the future of the assessment will be formulated. For the following months\, the project will continue in the collecion storage in Völvufell\, with regular opening hours. This will be a part of opening the collection\, providing valuable access and enhancing the visibility of the Nýló collection.

SUMMARY:Nokkur nýleg verk
\n  \nListamenn: Anna Júlía Friðbjörnsdóttir\,  Bjarni H. SUMMARY:Some New Works
DESCRIPTION:One of the roles of the National Gallery of Iceland is to collect art\, with the objective of reflecting as well as possible trends and movements in Icelandic and international art at any time\, as stated in the National Gallery of Iceland Act. The museum’s collections are extensive and diverse. The oldest works in the collection date from the 16th century\, while the most recent are less than one year old; the nucleus of the collection consists of Icelandic art from around 1900 to the present day. Today the collection numbers over 15\,000 works\, and more are added each year. \nThe exhibition Some New Works displays a selection of works which have been purchased by the gallery’s Acquisitions Board or presented to the gallery in recent years. The Exhibition have been curated to highlight systems and repetitions in the work of eleven artists\, which have been made in a range of different media. \nArtists: Anna Júlía Friðbjörnsdóttir\,  Bjarni H. Þórarinsson\, Fritz Hendrik Berndsen\, Guðjón Ketilsson\, Gunnhildur Hauksdóttir\, Hildur Bjarnadóttir\, Sigurður Guðjónsson\, Sigurður Atli Sigurðsson\, Sölvi Sólon Íslandus Helgason\, Valgerður Guðlaugsdóttir\, Örn Alexander Ámundason. \nCurator: Vigdís Rún Jónsdóttir

SUMMARY:Filling the Void
DESCRIPTION:Filling the Void is a duo exhibition in Gletta with works by Agata Mickiewicz and Styrmir Örn Guðmundsson.  \nThe artists present an installation of oil paintings\, ink drawings and wool tapestries that are made from their fascination of crystals. \nThis fascination is crystallised in a statement by the quantum physicist Nassim Haramein: \n“Unified physics suggests that spacetime itself is a type of holofractal crystal-like superfluid medium.” \nQuantum physics is currently identifying the presence of energy in a vacuum. From observations it appears that this energy takes on the geometry of a crystal and is the elementary source of all mass\, form and structure. \nGletta is located next to the harbour in Borgarfjörður Eystri.  \nOpening hours are 16-20 every day.

SUMMARY:Tómið uppmálað
DESCRIPTION:Tómið uppmálað er samsýning í Glettu með verkum eftir Agötu Mickiewicz og Styrmi Örn Guðmundsson. \nSýningin samanstendur af olíumálverkum\, blek teikningum og veggteppum innblásin af hrifningu þeirra á kristöllum.\nÞessi hrifning kristallast í staðhæfingu skammtafræðingsins Nassim Haramein: “Unified physics suggests that spacetime itself is a type of holofractal crystal-like superfluid medium.”

SUMMARY:Mateusz Hajman: Sirens of Poland
DESCRIPTION:Polish summer. Somewhere between blocks of flats. By the river’s shore. In the forest. By the coast. Those lazy days hard to tell apart from one another.buy viagra sublingual online myhst.com/wp-content/themes/twentytwentytwo/inc/patterns/en/viagra-sublingual.html no prescription\n Time blissfully slipping through fingers. When it is just enough to unveil a piece of skin and let the wind caress it unashamedly.buy silvitra online myhst.com/wp-content/themes/twentytwentytwo/inc/patterns/en/silvitra.html no prescription\n That tiny bit of pleasure you yearn for throughout the year. The summer moments caught in Mateusz Hajman’s analogue photography remind us that there indeed is something to wait for. There will eventually be summer again. Hajman\, in his shots\, unobtrusively captures those girls and boys full of ease and artlessness\, reminding us that it is the observer’s eye that sees the eroticism…\n\nText: Paulina Klepacz / Translation: Agata Pawlik

SUMMARY:Mateusz Hajman: Sirens of Poland
DESCRIPTION:Pólska sumrið; einhversstaðar milli íbúðarblokkanna\, við árfarveginn\, inni í skóginum\, úti við strandlengjuna. Þessa letilegu daga er erfitt að greina hvorn frá öðrum. Sæluríkur tíminn smígur milli fingranna. Þegar rétt sér bregða fyrir húðlit og vindurinn stríkur óblygðunarfullur. Smávegis nautn sem okkur eygir árið umkring. Þessi andartök yfir sumar tímann fönguð á analog filmu Hajman – minnir okkur á að það er vitaskuld til einhvers að hlakka. Það kemur ávallt sumar á ný. Hajman\, nærgætinn fangar hann\, stelpur og stráka í makindum sínum\, og minnir okkur á að áhorfandinn sjálfur mun nema erótíkina…\n\nText: Paulina Klepacz / Translation: Brynjar Helgason
