DESCRIPTION:Leysingar listahátíð fer fram í Alþýðuhúsinu á Siglufirði dagana 7. – 9. apríl næstkomandi. Leysingar er árleg hátíð um Páska þar sem listafólk frá ólíkum listgreinum mætast og úr verður suðupottur skapandi orku og upplifunar. Hátíðin er ávallt vel sótt og er velkomin viðbót við annars blómlegt menningarlíf á Siglufirði um Páska. Að þessu sinni verður þriggja daga menningardagskrá í Alþýðuhúsinu og eru allir velkomnir á meðan húsrúm leyfir. SUMMARY:Helgi Hjaltalín & Pétur Örn: Markmið XVI
DESCRIPTION:Sýningin er nýjasta afurð samstarfs listamannana sem teygir sig yfir tvo áratugi og hófst með sýningunni Markmið I í Gallerí Hlemmur í Reykjavík um aldamótin. Verk þeirra sem samanstanda af skrásettum gjörningum og tilraunum\, skúlptúrum\, ljósmyndum\, og myndböndum hafa síðan verið sýnd víða\, meðal annars í Listasafni Reykjavíkur\, Listasafni Akureyrar\, Listasafni Íslands\, Kling og Bang\, Museum for Contemporery Art í Sydney\, Goethe Institute í New York\, Motorenhalle í Dresden svo eitthvað sé nefnt.\nSamstarf þeirra Helga og Péturs einkennist af leikgleði og uppáfinningarsemi þar sem ákveðin afbygging á karlmennskutengdri tækjadellu á sér stað. Þeir búa til furðutæki og farskjóta fyrir ómögulegar aðstæður\, verkfæri sem hafa takmarkað notagildi og framkvæma óskilgreinanlegar athafnir . Tilgangur athafnanna getur virst óljós en markmið þeirra Helga og Péturs virðist oftar en ekki vera ferðalag – hvort sem það er ferð myndbandstökuvélar niður fjallshlíð eða ferðalag ýmisskonar farartækja sem knúin eru áfram af ímyndunaraflinu. Verkin taka óvænta stefnu\, undirbúningurinn verður niðurstaðan\, hætt er í miðjum klíðum\, allt gengur upp\, eitt kveikir annað og tengist með óskýranlegum hætti aftur eða fram í tímann eftir atvikum.\nFyrir sýninguna í Gallerí Undirgöng hafa listamennirnir aðlagað skrásetningu gjörnings að sýningarrýminu í anda þess samtals sem verk þeirra eiga ávallt í við áhorfendur við ólíkar aðstæður.

SUMMARY:Emma Heiðarsdóttir: Ljósrofi
DESCRIPTION:Emma Heiðarsdóttir (f. 1990) vinnur út frá breytilegum mörkum skúlptúrs og arkitektúrs\, listar og lífs. Verkin byggja gjarnan á inngripi í þau rými eða umgjörð sem hún sýnir í hverju sinni og snúa upp á viðtekna sýn okkar á umhverfið. Á sýningunni Ljósrofi kemur fram viðleitni til að skoða rými út frá takmarkandi og hlutlægum eiginleikum þess\, sem mynda umgjörð fyrir líkamlega og huglæga upplifun. Áhorfendur virkja sum verkanna með líkömum sínum og takmörk í rými leiða ef til vill hugann að öðrum takmörkum.\nEmma nam myndlist við Listaháskóla Íslands 2010-13 og stundaði framhaldsnám við listaakademíuna í Antwerp\, þaðan sem hún útskrifaðist 2018. Árið 2020 hlaut hún tilnefningu til hvatningarverðlauna Íslensku myndlistarverðlaunanna fyrir einkasýninguna Jaðar í D-sal Listasafns Reykjavíkur. Auk þess hafa verk Emmu meðal annars verið sýnd í i8 Gallery\, Listasafni Árnesinga\, Gallerí Úthverfu\, Kling & Bang\, Gerðarsafni\, Kunsthall Oslo og Einstein Kultur í München.\nemmaheidarsdottir.com

SUMMARY:Emma Heiðarsdóttir: Light Switch
DESCRIPTION:In her work\, Emma Heiðarsdóttir (b. 1990) deals with the shifting boundaries between sculpture and architecture\, art and life. Her works are often based on interventions into the spaces or surroundings where they are exhibited and tend to challenge our habitual view of the environment. Her exhibition Light Switch shows an effort to examine space from its limiting and objective qualities\, which form a framework for physical and subjective experience. Viewers activate certain works with their bodies and limits in space may induce ideas of other limits.\nEmma studied at the Iceland Academy of the Arts in 2010-13 and completed her MFA from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts\, Antwerp\, in 2018. In 2020 she was nominated for the Icelandic Art Prize – Motivational Award\, for her solo exhibition Margin\, in the D-gallery at Reykjavík Art Museum. Additionally her works have been exhibited at i8 Gallery\, Gallery Úthverfa\, Kling & Bang\, Kópavogur Art Museum\, Kunsthall Oslo and Einstein Kultur Munich among other places.

DESCRIPTION:SVIKULL SILFURLJÓMI\nSýningin Svikull silfurljómi birtist okkur í rými sem nú þegar er uppfullt af lögum\, sögum og fingraförum. Á sýningunni eru höggmyndir og myndverk sem ávarpa ýmist rýmið beint eða velta upp spurningum um tíma og gildismat.\nInnsta lag sýningarinnar er ókannað svæði\, fundið rými innan í rými. Blassgrün litur handriðs mótar jaðar hins ósýnilega rýmis og gefur því skilgreinda stærð\, lögun og mörk. Utan hins nýskilgreinda rýmis hanga rauð leikhústjöld. Þau marka líka rými\, renna eftir brautum og aðgreina eftir hentugleika. Leikhústjöld eru rauð því myrkur gleypir rauða litinn fyrst\, mýkir eldmóðinn og ástríðuna.\nFjórir pappírspésar finnast vel geymdir eftir langa dvöl á milli blaðsíðna í spakmælabók sem segir: ”Skynseminnar er að ráða\, en tilfinninganna að njóta”\, greinilega dýrmætir en týndir og gleymdir. Súrefnið er yfirþyrmandi.\nLög rýmisins hrannast upp\, þunnar skyggnur sem erfitt er að greina eftir því sem þær verða fleiri. Tímalínur blandast saman\, enginn man lengur hvort að fermingarveislur voru haldnar að vori eða snemma hausts og sumir segja að handriðið hafi alltaf verið þarna.\n1. apríl býr þó til pláss fyrir efa\, þetta gæti allt saman verið plat – þvílíkur léttir. Ysta lag sýningarinnar er hús\, samkomuhús.

SUMMARY:Una Björg Magnúsdóttir: Treacherous Silver Sheen
DESCRIPTION:TREACHEROUS SILVER SHEEN\nThe exhibition Treacherous Silver Sheen meets the eye in a space that is already full of layers\, stories\, and fingerprints. On display are sculptures and images. Some address the space directly and others raise questions about time and value judgements.\nThe exhibition’s innermost layer is uncharted territory\, a found space within a space. The Blassgrün paint of a railing forms the perimeter of this invisible space\, giving it definite size\, shape\, and boundaries. Outside the newly-defined space hang red theatre curtains. They also mark out a space; they slide on tracks and part at one’s convenience. Theatre curtains are red because darkness absorbs the colour red first\, softening fervour and passion.\nFour paper dolls turn up\, well-preserved after a long stay between the pages of a book of wisdom that says\, “Reason must guide and feelings delight.” The paper dolls are clearly precious\, but lost and forgotten. The oxygen is overwhelming.\nThe layers of the space mount up\, thin veils that are harder to discern the more of them there are. Time-lines blur together; no one remembers any more whether confirmation receptions were held in spring or early fall\, and some people say that the railing has always been there.\nApril Fool’s Day leaves room for doubt\, however. This could all be a trick—What a relief. The outermost layer of the exhibition is a building\, a community hall.

DESCRIPTION:“Ieodo” is a mythical salvation island with the lore that has been passed down for many generations. Jeju Island residents believe that after someone goes through adversities in their present life\, one can enjoy their afterlife in paradise island-Ieodo. When Haenyeos ride boats to gather materials from the distant sea and row their boats\, they sing songs about Ieodo to comfort their difficult present lives. \n“sea women\,” also known as “Haenyeo”. They are female divers that makes a living as the head of a household in a male-dominated Korean society. In the Island\, where most of the residents are engaged in fishing\, seafood that these women harvest without equipment and collected by hand was expensive. In addition\, women became more responsible for the livelihood of their families because of the massacres of civilians on Jeju Island in the 1940s due to political disputes. When I met Haenyeo\, I wanted to learn and share their lives in my work. I attended the Haenyeo School\, learned their working methods\, lived in seaside villages\, became their neighbor\, and visited their homes to hear their stories. I would follow other haenyeo’s stories – a truly remarkable experience. As time went by\, the lives of Jeju haenyeo\, who lived through the Japanese invasion era\, the Korean War\, and the massacre\, I realized that they were all survivors who lived their lives to the end\, protecting their families\, raising children in barren conditions. The 90 years old granny would talk about her childhood when she first entered the sea\, and I would go to the sea where she harvested decades ago. I would become her in her younger days when she was a dreamer and dancer in the ocean. I tried to commemorate and record their lives in my own way based on interviews.

SUMMARY:Sophie Durand: looking for / stumbling across
DESCRIPTION: Associate Gallery is located at Köllunarklettsvegur 4.\n‘looking for / stumbling across’ is a collection of research\, a gathering of gestures\, a map of movement. Sophie Durand presents an installation of objects that hold within them a journey\, using the gallery space to create a temporary place for the ideas she has accumulated.\n“I think the exhibition is about the sea\, but I think it is also about the sea\, as a distance\, a threshold.” – Joe Keys\n\n​​​​Sophie Durand is a multi-disciplinary artist based between Perth\, Australia and Vilnius\, Lithuania whose practice engages installation\, collection\, drawing and text. Projects are catalysed by experiences\, observations and artefacts. Encounters set narratives in motion and generate into larger investigations\, collections and networks through a diverse range of methods. Currently Sophie is attempting to find forms of art that situate empathetically to coastal ecological systems\, reconciling with a practice that’s built from mulling over memory and looking to find ways of recalibrating production and presentation to happen simultaneously to each other and the present.\nSophie has a BA (Hons 1st Class) in Fine Art from Curtin University and has completed the Masters in Contemporary Art Program at the Estonian Academy of Arts (with distinction). She is currently a Doctor of Art candidate at the Vilnius Academy of Arts in Lithuania.

Sophie Durand setur fram innsetningu muna sem bera með sér ferðalag og notar gallerírýmið til að búa hugmyndum sem hún hefur sankað að sér tímabundinn stað.\n„Ég held að sýningin snúist um hafið en ég held að hún sé líka um hafið sem fjarlægð\, þröskuld.“ – Joe Keys\n\nSophie Durand er þverfaglegur listamaður með aðsetur á milli Perth\, Ástralíu og Vilníus\, Litháen\, sem leggur áherslu á innsetningu\, söfnun\, teikningu og texta. Verkefni hennar eru knúin áfram af upplifunum\, athugunum og munum. Stefnumót hrinda frásögnum af stað og mynda stærri rannsóknir\, söfn og tengslanet með fjölbreyttum aðferðum. Nýverið hefur Sophie reynt að finna listform sem samræmast vistfræðilegum kerfum við ströndina\, sætta sig við iðkun sem byggist á því að velta fyrir mér minni og leita að leiðum til að endurkvarða framleiðslu og framsetningu til að gerast samtímis hvort öðru og nútíðinni.\nSophie er með BA (Hons 1st Class) í myndlist frá Curtin University og hefur lokið meistaranámi í samtímalist við Eistnesku listaháskólann (með láði). Hún er nú doktorsnemi í myndlist við Listaháskólann í Vilnius í Litháen.

SUMMARY:Lawrence Weiner og Birgir Andrésson
DESCRIPTION:Tungumálið er kjarni sköpunarferils Lawrence og Birgis. Báðir listamennirnir\, sem einnig voru vinir\, tengjast mætti orðanna órofa böndum og nota þau sem tjáningaraðferð\, sér í lagi með því að leita í sjónrænt afl textans. Birgir og Lawrence rannsökuðu takmörk listarinnar með því að teygja sig út fyrir hefðbundnar hugmyndir um eðli hluta í rými og áhorfandann og sköpuðu þannig nýjar leiðir til tjáningar. Með tilvistar- og heimspekilegum hugleiðingum þróuðu báðir listamennirnir einstakar aðferðir við listsköpun sem bergmáluðu á alþjóðagrundvelli og breyttu stefnu samtímalistar. \nÁhugi Birgis Andréssonar á aðferðum miðlunar magnaðist á uppeldisárunum en Birgir ólst upp hjá blindum foreldrum á blindraheimili. Þar af leiðandi skipuðu lýsingar með orðum mikilvægan sess í lífi Birgis og því þróaði hann með sér aukna næmni fyrir tungumálinu og lýsandi mætti þess. Einnig spilaði kímni og persónu- og þjóðareinkenni stórt hlutverk í listsköpun Birgis en saga Íslands ómar í gegnum allan feril hans. Birgir var fulltrúi Íslands á Feneyjartvíæringnum 1995 og er verk eftir hann í safneign Metropolitan Museum of Art í New York. Hann hélt einkasýningar á Listasafni Íslands og árið 2022 var sett upp stór yfirlitssýning af verkum hans á Listasafni Reykjavíkur í sýningarstjórn Robert Hobbs; með yfirlitssýningunni kom út vegleg bók um feril hans sem gefin var út af Distanz Verlag. \nLawrence Weiner helgaði sköpun sinni því að draga viðteknar reglur í efa sem gerði hann að leiðandi persónu konseptlistar á sjöunda áratug síðustu aldar. Myndrænt tungumál grafískrar notkunar á texta í hástöfum\, merkjum og línum einkennir myndlist hans og hefur hlotið mikið lof. Lawrence hefur sýnt víða á alþjóðlegum vettvangi þar á meðal í Tate Modern í London; Stedelijk Museum\, Amsterdam; Museo Tamayo í Mexíkóborg; Guggenheim Museum í Bilbao; The Jewish Museum í New York og í Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía í Madrid. SUMMARY:Lawrence Weiner & Birgir Andrésson
DESCRIPTION:Language is at the essence of Lawrence Weiner and Birgir Andrésson’s artistries. The iconic conceptualists\, who were also friends\, are inextricably linked to the power of words and their methods of expression\, particularly through the visual power of text. Andrésson and Weiner explored the boundaries of what art can be\, pushing past traditional understandings of objecthood and viewership to create new methods of expression. For both artists\, their existential and philosophical contemplations formed distinct practices that reverberated internationally to change the course of contemporary art. \nBirgir Andrésson’s interest in methods of communication was heightened by growing up as a sighted person with blind parents in a home for the visually impaired. The reliance on the spoken word in Andrésson’s life created a heightened response to language and its descriptive powers. In addition to language\, elements of humour\, as well as national and personal identity\, are important to his practice\, and Icelandic history resonates strongly throughout his work. Andrésson\, whose work is included in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York\, represented Iceland at the Venice Biennale in 1995. He had solo exhibitions at the National Gallery of Iceland and at the Reykjavík Art Museum\, where a major survey show curated by art historian Robert Hobbs was presented in 2022; this survey exhibition was accompanied by a new monograph published by Distanz Verlag. \nLawrence Weiner’s devotion to questioning convention made the artist a leading figure in the 1960s Conceptual art movement\, and his graphic use of capitalized text\, marks\, and lines formed a critically acclaimed visual language unique to him. Weiner has exhibited widely at international venues including Tate Modern\, London; Stedelijk Museum\, Amsterdam; Museo Tamayo\, Mexico City; Guggenheim Museum Bilbao; The Jewish Museum\, New York; and the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía\, Madrid. A major retrospective of Weiner’s work was presented by the Whitney Museum\, New York; the Museum of Contemporary Art\, Los Angeles; and K21 Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen\, Düsseldorf from 2007 – 2009.

DESCRIPTION:To speak in dated terms via metaphysics of a force field surrounding a set of material art objects I determine that my practise is all about such construction. In a world of it’s own however an osmosis is assumed with a perfect stranger whos’ subjecthood would qualify the experience with regard to history and society\, particular as they may be… That is finally the sort of usefulness of the endevour that measures aesthetic value relative to each thing and each act accordingly (in situations). This aestheticization of life or reality is what’s called a spell and people can come under it. In fact society as a whole is being built on dreams and illusions. Some of us are cursed to pursue selfish ends via destructive means. Others are inspired by visions of paradise on earth. DESCRIPTION:Svo tala mætti á frumspekilegu nótunum um áhrifasvið umhverfis upplag ákveðinna efnislegra listhluta skilgreini ég listiðkun mína út frá þannig ‘smíðavinnu’. Í eigin heimi sem aftur á móti gerir ráð fyrir osmósu við einhvern fullkomlega ókunnugan sem með hugveruleika sínum myndi ljá upplifuninni væ( )gi í tengslum við sögu og samfélag\, sértæk sum þau kunna að vera… Þetta felur á endanum í sér visst notagildi ̶v̶e̶g̶ flug?ferðarinnar sem mælikvarði á fagurfræðilegt gildi afstætt öllum mögulegum hlutum og hluteigandi gjörðum vorum (aðstæðunum). Þess konar fagurfræðivæðing lífsins eða raunveruleikans er það sem hefur verið nefnt galdur sem fólk lendir í álögum hvers. Í raun er samfélagið í heild byggt á draumum og órum. Einhverjum okkar hvílir á bölvun þess að af sjálfselsku leita leiða eyðileggingar. Öðrum er blásin í hjarta sýn af paradís á jörðu. Af þannig kyrrð eimir innsetningin sem að ég vil og stuðla að.

SUMMARY:Jóhann Vilhjálmsson: Written Images
DESCRIPTION:Jóhann Vilhjálmsson began drawing at an early age and has kept at it ever since\, despite life’s countless distractions\, work and family obligations. When he was around sixty\, he found out he had a serious illness that forced him to quit working\, but instead he chose to focus on his art practice\, including an exhibition of his works in ArtReach Gallery in Portland\, Oregon\, in 2019. \nJóhann’s images are defined by careful planning and fine details\, both when it comes to composition and colour combinations\, but it is immediately clear to the viewer that there is a lot of work that goes into each picture. To this end\, Jóhann finds strength in being on the autism spectrum\, but things finally fell into place for him upon receiving a diagnosis late in life. \nJóhann creates his works using paper\, various types of ink and a range of colours. Sometimes\, he works from an image\, though he also tends to make abstract studies based on forms and colour\, but in later years the works have begun to resemble skillfully illuminated medieval manuscripts\, of European or Oriental origin. This can be seen in the rich illustrations\, for example dragon flourishes\, commonly found in Northern European manuscripts\, and the apparent division of text into columns on the page. \nOn closer inspection\, one notices that what looks like writing is not made up of any recognisable letters; the script does not correspond to any known words or sounds. This kind of writing has been dubbed asemic (from Greek: lacking meaning). Nevertheless\, this does not mean that such writing lacks all substance\, serving only decorative purpose\, as it may yet convey messages that it is otherwise difficult to put into words – thus prompting the viewer to read using the imagination. \nCurated by Erling T. DESCRIPTION:Jóhann S. Vilhjálmsson byrjaði ungur að teikna og hélt því áfram þótt við tækju annir fullorðinsáranna\, vinna og fjölskylda. Um sextugt veiktist hann alvarlega og hefur verið frá vinnu síðan en í staðinn hefur hann helgað sig myndlistinni og sýndi til dæmis verk sín í ArtReach Gallery í Portland í Oregonríki Bandaríkjanna árið 2019. \nMegineinkenni á myndum Jóhanns er hve nákvæmlega allt er hugsað og framsett\, bæði litasamsetningar og myndbygging\, en eitt það fyrsta sem áhorfandinn áttar sig á er hve mikil vinna liggur bak við hverja mynd. Þar finnur Jóhann styrk í því að vera á einhverfurófi en það var nokkuð sem hafði þvælst fyrir honum alla ævi þar til hann fékk greiningu á fullorðinsaldri. \nJóhann vinnur verk sín á pappír og notar til þess ýmiss konar blek og liti. Hann hefur unnið verk út frá myndum og verk sem eru abstraktstúdíur á litasamsetningum og formum en síðustu árin hafa verkin farið að líkjast æ meir síðum úr fallega lýstum miðaldahandritum\, evrópskum eða austurlenskum. Þá sameina þau myndskreyti\, til dæmis drekaflúr\, eins og við þekkjum frá Norðurlöndum\, og leturdálka. \nÞegar betur er að gáð sjáum við hins vegar að það sem virðist letur er ekki á neinu þekktu ritmáli; skriftin skilar ekki til okkar neinum orðum eða hljóðum. Þetta heitir á fræðimáli að hún sé asemísk (dregið af grísku: án merkingar). Það fer þó fjarri að slík skrift sé tómt skraut\, heldur er hún til þess fallin að við lesum í hana eitthvað sem kannski verður ekki komið í orð – að við lesum með ímyndunaraflinu. \nSýningarstjórar eru Erling T. DESCRIPTION:Markmið Listar án landamæra er að vinna að menningarlegu jafnrétti fyrir fatlaða listamenn. Verkefnið stendur fyrir árlegri hátíð sem sýnir öll listform eftir bæði fatlaða og ófatlaða listamenn. Hátíðin fagnar 20 ára afmæli í ár og er Listasafnið á Akureyri nú þátttakandi í fyrsta sinn. \nGuðjón Gísli Kristinsson (f. 1988) sýndi fyrstu útsaumsmyndina sína á sýningu í Sólheimum sumarið 2020 og hefur síðan sýnt á samsýningum Listar án landamæra í Reykjavík og MeetFactory í Prag. Hann vinnur út frá ljósmyndum af raunverulegum fyrirmyndum og teiknar eftir þeim áður en verkið fer á strammann\, þar sem það er saumað út af elju og ástríðu. Myndefni Guðjóns Gísla eru ýmist nánasta umhverfi eða íslenskt landslag\, en nýlega hefur hann leitað innblásturs í hönnunartímarit og innanhússarkitektúr. Óháð myndefninu má sjá samhljóm í litavali\, mynstrum og handbragði.

SUMMARY:Guðjón Gísli Kristinsson: New Approach
DESCRIPTION:The aim of Art Without Borders is to work towards cultural equality for disabled artists. An annual festival is held where diverse artforms by disabled and non-disabled artists are exhibited. This year the festival celebrates its 20th anniversary and for the first time Akureyri Art Museum is participating. \nGuðjón Gísli Kristinsson (born 1988) showed his first embroidery at an exhibition in Sólheimar 2020 and has since participated in Art Without Borders group exhibitions in Reykjavík and MeetFactory in Prag. In his art creations he uses photographs of which he first makes a drawing and then does the needlepoint onto the woven material – with passion and diligence. Kristinsson‘s subject matter is either his closest surroundings or Icelandic landscape\, although his most recent works are inspired by design magazines and interior design. Independent of the motifs one can see harmony in his color palette\, patterns\, and technique.

DESCRIPTION:Í Ósýndarheimum verður sjónum beint að stafrænni list\, ljósmyndun\, hreyfimyndum\, raunsæi og ofurveruleika. Listamennirnir takast hver um sig á við hugmyndir um raunveruleika og sýndarleika sem birtast í verkum þeirra\, þar sem viðfangið er aftenging\, kvíði og sú gráglettni sem einkennir þá kynslóð sem nú lifir og hrærist í umhverfi nýmiðlunar. Með því að beita fyrir sig stafrænum tjáningarmöguleikum draga þau fram satíruna sem felst í streituvaldandi lífsmynstri 21. aldarinnar\, auk þess að gefa gaum að hvers kyns tilvistarkreppum\, loftslagsvánni og hruni vistkerfa\, mannlegu eðli og spillingu kapítalismans. Verk þeirra vekja jafnvel upp hugleiðingar um það hvernig veröld ofurveruleikans getur leitt til firringar og aftengdrar tilvistar. \nListamenn sýningarinnar Ósýndarheima nálgast hið „stafræna“ fyrst og fremst út frá hugsun og hegðun\, í stað þess að taka sérstaklega viðmið af miðlum eða aðferð. Vinna þeir með þrívíða miðla\, teikningu\, vídeó og ljósmyndun\, auk stafrænna ferla við gerð skúlptúra og málverka\, sem vísa til þeirra óskýru marka sem eru á milli raunveruleikans og hermiheimsins. Stuðst er við hreyfimyndir og hið stafræna til þess að rýna félagslegt ástand á líðandi stundu en listamennirnir í Ósýndarheimum vísa hér til stafrænna upplifana í því skyni að varpa ljósi á hinn óhlutbunda veruleika\, sem og þá spillingu og eyðileggingu sem viðgengst í umhverfi okkar. Þá ganga listamennirnir út frá því að aðgreining og tilvistarangist séu meðal afleiðinga stafræns sýndarveruleika og spyrja loks hvað framtíðin beri í skauti sér fyrir samfélag sem er orðið háð nettengdum kerfum og stafrænum tjáningarmátum í stað mannlegra samskipta. \nListamennirnir sem taka þátt í sýningunni eru Kristín Helga Ríkharðsdóttir\, Meriem Bennani\, María Guðjohnsen\, Bita Razavi\, Helena Margrét Jónsdóttir og Inari Sandell. \nSýningarstjóri er Daría Sól Andrews.

SUMMARY:Uncanny Virtuality
DESCRIPTION:Uncanny Virtuality focuses on digital art\, photography\, the moving image\, realism\, and hyperreality. Each artist explores themes of reality and virtuality through their perspective practices\, commenting on a disconnection\, anxiety and irony that is unique to our current generation within a new-media world. Through a digital expression\, they find satire in the stresses of the 21st century\, attending to modes of existential crisis\, climate disaster\, ecology\, human nature and capitalistic corruption. Their works lead us to ponder how the realm of hyperreality can lead to abstracted\, disconnected experience. \nAs a jumping off point\, “the digital” is referenced in Uncanny Virtuality as a way of thinking and operating\, as opposed to a strict medium or mode of creation. The artists work within 3D media\, animation\, video\, photography and digitally informed sculptural and painterly practice\, pointing to the blurring lines between reality and simulated existence. Using the moving image and the digital as a starting point to critically comment on a social state of affairs\, the artists of Uncanny Virtuality reference digitally experienced worlds as a way to critique the global state of abstraction\, destruction\, and corruption we have found ourselves in. They acknowledge the modes of dissociation and anxiety of existence that come from simulated realities and within the digital\, questioning thus what the future holds within a society that has become so dependent upon online realities and digital expressions of sociality. \nThe participating artists are Kristín Helga Ríkharðsdóttir\, Meriem Bennani\, María Guðjohnsen\, Bita Razavi\, Helena Margrét Jónsdóttir and Inari Sandell. \nCurated by Daría Sól Andrews.

Til að ná skerpu þarf að afmarka. \nÞú gengur inn\, rýmið er afmarkað\, afmarkað af líkama\, framlenging af líkama. Líkami og rými eru eitt og hið sama en aðskilin í senn\, eins og tveir vökvar í sama máli. Hugsun er líkamleg\, það býr viska í líkamanum. Milli huga og líkama eru huglæg skil; tveir dropar í sama vatni. Vitundin svamlar milli líkama\, huga\, rýmis og allra rásanna sem flæða þar á milli.“ \nSara Björg kafar út í rýmið og leyfir líkamlegri tengingu sinni við það að leiða sig áfram í framsetningu þessa verks – verks sem reynir að fanga tilfinningu\, ástand eða tíma sem orð ná ekki utan um. DESCRIPTION:“Strolling by the shore\, gazing at the infinite horizon you reflect into a limitless introspection. For clarity one must confine. \nStepping into a confined space\, a space emerging through the way the body inhabits it\, an extension of the body. Body and space unified and separate\, simultaneously\, two liquids in one vessel. Thought is bodily\, there is wisdom in the body. Between mind and body there is a concept of a margin\, two drops of the same body of water. Awareness swims between body\, mind\, space and all channels in-between.” \nSara Björg submerges herself into the space. Her physical connection to the space directs the presentation of this piece. A piece that tries to embody a feeling\, situation or time that words cannot express. An intangible memory of a recent period of stagnation. \nSara Björg Bjarnadóttir (born 1988) graduated from Iceland University of the Arts in 2015. She has exhibited her work around Iceland as well as in Berlin\, Athens\, Vilnius\, London and Los Angeles.

SUMMARY:Kaleidoscope: Icelandic 20th Century Art
DESCRIPTION:Kaleidoscope is the title of an exhibition series where we examine artworks in the Reykjavík Art Museum’s collection. In 2023\, the museum celebrates fifty years since the opening of the museum’s first location at Kjarvalsstaðir. To mark this occasion\, special attention is paid to the museum collection\, with an opportunity to view and display treasures therefrom. Presently\, the museum collection holds over seventeen thousand registered artworks of all types and created in various media\, from sketches and drafts by Kjarval to contemporary works by young and old artists. Kaleidoscope of the 20th century is presented at Kjarvalsstaðir\, but the Kaleidoscope of the 21st century will be on display in Hafnarhús from 6 June\, and Kaleidoscope of international art from the collection in Hafnarhús until 7 May. \nThe exhibition Kaleidoscope – Icelandic Art in the 20th Century gives an insight into Icelandic art during the last century through the part of our cultural heritage that is preserved at Reykjavík Art Museum. The museum belongs to the city of Reykjavík\, and there with its citizens. Now is a chance to become acquainted with its collection. \nOn Kjarvalsstaðir fiftieth anniversary\, 24 March\, an exhibition of selected Icelandic artworks from the 20th century will be opened. The exhibition contains around two hundred pieces from the museum collection and is divided between the East and West Hall\, in the year 1973\, when Kjarvalsstaðir opened as a museum. The year also marks a certain turning point in Icelandic art history\, as it was a time when the linear progress of modernism gave way to the avant-garde multi-story telling. The exhibition contained works by many of Iceland’s foremost artists\, works that are well-known as well as others that have rarely been displayed and will surprise many. \nA kaleidoscope is a toy that disintegrates the conventional visual field and gives an opportunity of looking at reality in a fragmented pattern. Similarly\, an art museum’s collection can never be viewed except in parts\, in various constructions and different context. At the same time\, the museum collection can never be anything but a fragmentary selection of art creation in any given period\, and people’s view of the works affected by the zeitgeist of the time. Note that the museum collection can also be explored on the museum’s website\, and there are also always numerous works on display in the city’s institutions and service centres. \nWhen Kjarvalsstaðir opened\, fifty years ago\, Reykjavík’s art collection and exhibition staging was given a formal setting. The museum collection consists\, among other things\, of works that Jóhannes S. Kjarval bequeathed to the city\, works that the city and its institutions had acquired\, and donations from patrons. Ever since\, it has been growing\, with regular purchases and generous donations\, and continues to do so every year.

DESCRIPTION:Sýningin Kviksjá: Íslensk myndlist á 20. öld veitir innsýn í íslenska myndlist á 20. öld í gegnum þann hluta menningarafsins sem varðveittur er í Listasafni Reykjavíkur. \nÁ fimmtugasta afmælisdegi Kjarvalsstaða\, þann 24. mars\, verður opnuð sýning þar sem tjaldað er til völdum íslenskum verkum frá 20. öld.  Á sýningunni er að finna um tvöhundruð listaverk úr safneigninni  og skiptist hún  á milli Austur- og Vestursala á árinu 1973\, þegar Kjarvalsstaðir voru vígðir. Um leið markar árið ákveðin straumhvörf í listasögunni hér á landi því þá eru að verða skil á milli línulegrar framvindu módernismans og margsögu framúrstefnutímabilsins. Á sýningunni eru verk eftir marga af fremstu listamönnum þjóðarinnar\, verk sem eru vel kunn\, en einnig fjölmörg verk sem sjaldan hafa verið sýnd og munu koma mörgum á óvart. \nKviksjá (e.kaleidoscope) er tæki sem brýtur upp hefðbundið sjónsvið og gefur kost á því að njóta þess að skoða veruleikann í brotakenndu mynstri. Safneign í listasafni má segja að lúti sömu lögmálum. Aldrei gefst  kostur á að skoða safnið nema að hluta í ólíkum samsetningum og nýju samhengi. Um leið er safneignin ekki nema brotakennt úrval af listsköpun á hverjum tíma og sýn manna á verkin lituð ríkjandi tíðaranda hverju sinni. Þess má geta að hægt er að grúska frekar í safneigninni á heimasíðu safnsins og jafnframt eru hverju sinni fjölmörg listaverk sýnd í stofnunum og þjónustumiðstöðvum Reykjavíkurborgar. \nÞegar Kjarvalsstaðir voru vígðir fyrir 50 árum varð til formleg umgjörð utanum sýningahald og listaverkaeign Reykjavíkurborgar. Stofn safnkostsins samanstendur meðal annars af verkum sem Jóhannes S. Kjarval ánafnaði borginni\, verkum sem borgin og stofnanir hennar höfðu eignast og gjöfum frá velunnurum. Safnkosturinn hefur vaxið æ síðan með reglulegum innkaupum verka og veglegum gjöfum og heldur áfram að dafna á hverju ári. \nKviksjá er yfirskrift sýningaraðar þar sem við skoðum listaverk í safneign Listasafns Reykjavíkur. Í ár fagnar safnið því að 50 ár eru liðin frá því fyrsta aðsetur safnsins var formlega opnað á Kjarvalsstöðum. Í tilefni tímamótanna er sérstakur gaumur gefinn að safneigninni og tækifærið nýtt til til þess að skoða og sýna gersemar sem þar eru varðveittar. Í safninu eru nú rúmlega sautján þúsund skráð verk af öllum gerðum unnin í fjölbreytta listmiðla\, allt frá skissum og rissi eftir meistara Kjarval til samtímalistaverka eftir unga sem aldna listamenn. Kviksjá 20. aldar er kynnt á Kjarvalsstöðum en Kviksjá 21. aldar verður í Hafnarhúsi frá 6. júní\, og Kviksjá erlendar myndlistar í safneigninni er í Hafnahúsi til 7. maí.

DESCRIPTION:Á sýningunni gefur að líta innsetningu og bókverk er sækir efnivið sinn til aldagamalla hugleiðinga um sjónræna framsetningu verunnar eins og hún birtist okkur í listasögunni\, ekki síst í verkum er tengjast hefð útsýnismynda og landslagsins.  \nVerk Einars byggir á kortlagningu ferðamannaiðnaðarins á Reykjavík samtímans\, þar sem síkvik neysla og myndafjöld á álitsgjafaöld hefur smám saman mótað ákveðna „vegvísa” og valið „áhugaverða staði” fyrir gestkomandi í höfuðborginni.  \nÁ sýningunni og í bókverkinu sem fylgir veltir Einar fyrir sér þessu undarlega samhengi kortlagningar og hversdagslegrar upplifunar okkar á veröldinni. Hann kannar áhrif slíkra mynda á upplifun okkar af borginni um leið og hann bendir okkur á nauðsyn þess að hvert og eitt okkar finni sín eigin kennileiti.  \nEinar Garibaldi er myndlistarmaður og sýningarstjóri sem á að baki fjölda sýninga á verkum sínum bæði heima og erlendis. List hans á oftar en ekki í beinu samtali við listasöguna\, sér í lagi birtingarmyndir náttúru og borgar\, þar sem tekist er á við að skilja upplifanir okkar af nánasta umhverfi\, jafnt sem mótun þeirra í gegnumtungumálið\, hverskonar myndgerð\, kortlagningu og skiltagerð. \nReykjavík / Vegvísir – A Guide er þriðja sýning sem haldin er í Glerhúsið sem fagnar árs afmæli snemma í sumar.   \nSýningu Einar Garibalda lýkur 11. júní næstkomandi.
