SUMMARY:Sirra Sigrún Sigurðardóttir & Ásmundur Sveinsson: As If to Demonstrate an Eclipse
DESCRIPTION:Reykjavík Art Museum – Ásmundarsafn newly reopens with Sirra Sigrún Sigurðardóttir’s exhibition of work in dialogue with Ásmundur Sveinsson and the building itself. Sirra’s works are cosmical\, often connected to speculations about our position within the inner workings of nature\, physics and the forces that drive the world. Her works often call upon our position as individuals\, our significance and insignificance\, and where the small is placed in the context of the large. Meaning is transformed from one phenomenon to another; a new perception\, new vision. Many of Ásmundur’s works connect to his curiosity in the movement and law of the celestial bodies. In particular\, this appears in abstract works from the sixties and seventies\, that also relate to the general interest in man’s exploration in space at that time. Among works in the exhibition is the well-known Face of the Sun\, an ode to the sun\, our prerequisite for life on earth. This and other works by Ásmundur harmonise deeply in Sirra’s installation. \nUnlike art\, scientific information and data is presented in a reliable\, unequivocal\, and easily understood manner with trustworthy forms such as diagrams\, thermographs\, mathematical models and pie charts\, to name a few. These methods tell us something concrete and definite about our world and human’s position therein. Sirra has repeatedly used the appearance and the gist of these forms in her art. However\, the presentation casts a new light on the information\, and on the disambiguation of information in general\, and creates a distance of sorts. Scientific measuring devices are elevated\, but at the same time\, also questioned. A spin of the artist’s test tube often reveals a different and wider viewpoint\, with more reference and awareness of how impossible it is to communicate anything unambiguously. And the illogical explanations found in art become less unreliable than they appear. \nThe country’s position on the globe causes exaggerated fluctuations in the movements of the sun; the winter sun appears low in the sky for only a few hours\, but the summer sun rises high for most of the solar day. In her exhibition in Ásmundarsafn\, Sirra uses Ásmundur’s largest sculpture\, the building itself\, and reflected sunrays\, to create a massive drawing in the form of an abstract sundial. Ásmundur made various attempts to interpret the laws of nature through the shapes\, lines and materials of his sculptures. Scientific discoveries inspired him to develop new imagery. Sirra’s new work form a dialogue with selected works by Ásmundur and his world of ideas. They nod to his sincere interest in technology and science\, and to his sensitivity to different materials and various approaches\, reflected in the fearlessness with which he changed his style and methods throughout his career. \nSirra Sigrún Sigurðardóttir graduated with a BA from Iceland University of the Arts in 2001\, and an MA in Art Practice from the School of Visual Arts in New York in 2013. She has held solo exhibitions at Reykjavík Art Museum\, The Living Art Museum Reykjavík\, Hafnarborg Culture Centre\, and Kling & Bang\, among other locations\, and has participated in group exhibitions and projects around the world\, including Chinese European Art Center in Xiamen\, China\, Amos Andersons Konstmuseum in Helsinki\, Finland\, and at Tate Modern and Frieze Projects in London\, England. \nSirra is one of the founders of Kling & Bang in Reykjavík. In 2015 Sirra received the Guðmunda Award\, established by the artist Erró in 1997. Sirra was nominated for the Visual Arts Award in 2020 and has been awarded grants and recognitions from various art funds including Dungal\, Leifur Eiríksson\, Svavar Guðnason\, and Guðmunda Andrésdóttir. In 2015\, Sirra was among 24 international artists selected by Modern Painters magazine as worth following in the years to come. \nÁsmundur Sveinson (1893-1982) was a pioneer in Icelandic art. He studied classical sculpture and worked in traditional subjects at the beginning. His subjects were related to the local environment\, working classes\, legends and sagas. In the sixties he deviated from the figurative methods that previously characterized his artistic creation and increasingly began to use abstract imagery. His subjects became more intangible and connected to natural phenomena\, laws and physics. Unconventional material became prominent in his works and often overtook the outcome of individual works; at the same time\, he adopted freer methods by working directly with the material. Ásmundur built his studio and home\, the Dome\, in several stages during the years 1942-59. \nThe exhibition As If to Demonstrate an Eclipse is the first of two exhibitions opening in Ásmundarsafn in 2021. An exhibition with new works by Carl Boutard and Ásmundur’s historic works will open in the autumn. With these exhibitions\, Ásmundarsafn opens after its greatest renovation since opening to the public in 1986. Visitors gain a new perspective on the legacy of the well-known and beloved artist through the lens of two contemporary artists and in the beautiful surroundings that Ásmundarsafn and the park shape.

SUMMARY:Sirra Sigrún Sigurðardóttir og Ásmundur Sveinsson: Ef lýsa ætti myrkva
DESCRIPTION:Listasafn Reykjavíkur – Ásmundarsafn hefur verið opnað á ný með sýningu Sirru Sigrúnar Sigurðardóttur þar sem hún á í samtali við verk Ásmundar Sveinssonar og bygginguna sjálfa. \nSirra Sigrún Sigurðardóttir lauk BA námi frá Listaháskóla Íslands árið 2001 og MA í Art Practice frá School of Visual Arts í New York árið 2013.

SUMMARY:Ragnar Kjartansson: Sumarnótt
DESCRIPTION:Á björtum sumarmánuðum sýnir Listasafn Íslands vídeóinnsetninguna Sumarnótt (Death Is Elsewhere) eftir Ragnar Kjartansson sem hann tók upp á íslenskri nótt\, þegar aldrei dimmir.

SUMMARY:Ragnar Kjartansson: Death is Elsewhere
DESCRIPTION:During the bright summer months\, the National Gallery of Iceland shows the video installation Death Is Elsewhere by Ragnar Kjartansson – filmed one Icelandic summer night\, when darkness never falls. This seven-channel work is one of the large-scale video installations which have been prominent in Ragnar‘s art in recent years\, where repetition\, time and space play important roles. In Death Is Elsewhere the artist returns to familiar territory\, where a romantic utopian spirit reigns. The ambiance is one of insouciance and melancholy as young couples wander through unvarying lowlands\, singing to a guitar accompaniment. The symmetrical picture and constantly repeated melody entice the observer into the work’s unending circularity\, shutting out impending doom while constantly alluding to it. \nDeath Is Elsewhere was filmed in the Eldhraun lava field in south Iceland\, near the volcano which erupted in the historic Skaftá Fires of the late 18th century\, causing devastation in Iceland and affecting climate worldwide. By this choice of location\, Ragnar references the eruption and the history\, and he also brings Icelandic art history into the work\, for instance by evoking the landscape paintings of Jón Stefánsson (1881-1962)\, and not least the light summer nights which were a favourite theme of Icelandic landscape artists in the early 20th century\, at the time of the pioneers of Icelandic art.\n \nRagnar Kjartansson was born in Reykjavík in 1976.buy sildenafil online https://www.mobleymd.com/wp-content/languages/new/sildenafil.html no prescription\n He studied at the Iceland University of the Arts 1997–2001\, and was an exchange student at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm. \nRagnar is the best-known Icelandic artist today\, and his works are displayed in prestigious museums around the world. He represented Iceland at the Venice Biennale in 2009\, and in 2019 his video installation The Visitors was chosen as the best art work of the 21st century by the Guardian. Death Is Elsewhere was first shown at the Metropolitan Museum in New York in 2019\, and this is the first time it has been exhibited in Iceland. \nDeath Is Elsewhere is dedicated to Carolee Schneemann.

SUMMARY:Sigurður Guðjónsson: Unseen Fields
DESCRIPTION:One may wonder how to register the physical world and the laws that govern it through contemplation and attentiveness. Moreover\, one may seek the experience of the otherness existing in our world that can turn into a compelling\, persuasive and profound event. These reflections can be seen as attempts to explore our own nature in relation to other autonomous non-human entities\, and they can become powerful drives for artistic expression. \nSigurður Guðjónsson appears to be asking these kinds of questions when he undertakes experiments in which he sculpts visions of hidden landscapes of matter. Through bringing into focus unseen topographies found in certain materials\, he unveils them while retaining their uncanny and alien character. The guiding themes for his latest works refer to this line of inquiry: what is hidden within the medium that can be revealed and expressed through new visual codes. Macroscopic observations of imperceptible systems captured from within fluorescent tubes\, optics\, film\, and cameras or\, more recently\, microscopes\, are brought from the artist’s studio to the gallery\, unfolding across walls and surfaces. These visual designs\, partly imagined and partly found\, form tantalizing visions of elemental substances that are rooted in the physical world of which we are a part. Therefore the gallery becomes a space in which to consider phenomena that pass unnoticed in our daily life but present deeply poetic situations of sound and matter. The artist’s obsession is the unveiling of phenomenological events that take place inside machines and across scales\, combined into gases and chemicals\, or in the frequencies\, wavelengths\, and energy fields embodied within these objects. \nIn Fluorescent the artist approaches the notions of light and material dynamics through focusing in extreme close-up on the processes that occur inside a fluorescent tube. The interior of the tube is portrayed\, rotating and pulsing rhythmically on two opposed circular images\, as a new aesthetic environment; one governed and generated by the excitations and interplay between electricity\, the noble gas argon\, and the fine coating of phosphorous on the inside of the glass tube. High voltages ionize the gas and bring the radiation into the visible spectrum and into the realm where the artist can bring them to the attention of the viewer. The perspective of the images prohibits our immediate connection with their source\, instead suggesting dust clouds floating in space or atmospheric anomalies. The installation is accompanied by a mesmerizing sound composition that is formed by directly tapping into the electromagnetic radiation emitted by the subject. By applying granular synthesis techniques to this source material\, the artist creates another layer of interpretation of the discrete processes taking place within and radiated from the fluorescent tube. The work breaks the conceptions of matter as a stable system\, instead of creating compositions that haunt us with the forms emerging from dynamic motions and randomized patterns. \nLarge machines and complex instrumentation\, vast infrastructures\, and the various detection and processing technologies of today allow transference of the human gaze to the remote domains of nature. Enigma takes us into such topography of uncertain contours as an in-depth survey of a fragment of carbon\, as seen by an electron microscope. In the gallery\, the viewer thus becomes the observer of an environment that could be seen familiar\, yet offers us an uncanny view\, closer to the landscapes of Mars\, or the images from the depths of ocean chasms. This perspective could not be captured outside the vacuum chamber of the electronic microscope\, a space devoid of air or gases\, or time references. Thus\, we could conclude that in the space created by this work time is created and passes as a non-linear\, elusive narrative. Enigma’s time is determined by a visual representation made up of vibrations and rhythms of the smallest imaginable scale\, close to the sphere of the esoteric. The Greek esoterikos describes what is “intimate\, reserved for the adepts” and describes precisely the representation of the hidden that is revealed through the film. Again\, the artist treats the technical instrument as that which allows access to an aspect of nature that remains normally hidden.buy vibramycin online https://www.mobleymd.com/wp-content/languages/new/vibramycin.html no prescription\n Despite the precision that anchors the experiment it seems that the artist himself would want to abandon control of the composition and act only as an observer. \nIn the exhibition\, Sigurður Guðjónsson invites us to access a framework of sound and visual experiences that are built through observation of the most intimate levels of the subject. Time is suspended; we observe the pulsations of the matter that emerges. The processes of matter interfere and intersect with emotional and sensorial experience. As John Cage reminded us\, “following the direction of unintended sounds is a renunciation of the human\, it is a psychological journey that takes us into the world of nature where gradually or suddenly we see that humanity and nature are together in the world\, not separate.” In these terms\, all sounds\, images\, in their natural essence\, can be explored through a true process of synthesis\, combining elements and components to form new\, connected\, and reimagined wholes. \nMónica Bello\, curator

SUMMARY:Kristján Magnússon: Back Yards
DESCRIPTION:Back yards\, sheds\, clothes-lines\, and now and then a cat. Photographer Kristján Magnússon trains his lens exclusively on a narrow\, enclosed swath of the urban environment: the back-lots of residential areas in the older parts of Reykjavik. He captures images of almost-deserted spaces that seem well thought-out despite the cluttered surroundings. This photo series strongly conveys the stylistic traits of this veteran ad photographer. \n\nKristján Magnússon (1931-2003) studied photography with Pétur Thomsen around 1960. In the same period he took pictures for the magazine Vikan and the newspaper Tíminn. In 1967 Kristján struck out on his own\, opened a photography studio\, and over the years shot many photos for ad agencies. Ingimundur\, Kristján’s twin brother\, later joined the business\, and the two men worked together from 1978 to 1998. \nThe National Museum Collection of Photographs and Prints received Kristján’s collected works in 2004. Among them was the series Back Yards. Kristján himself had selected\, processed\, and prepared the photographs for exhibition but they are now on view to the public for the first time.

SUMMARY:Spessi 1990-2020
DESCRIPTION:The contemporary photographer Spessi – Sigurþór Hallbjörnsson – has forged a unique style within the field of fine-art photography. His work presents cold hard reality\, unvarnished and uncensored\, whether the subject is a person or a setting.buy viagra black online www.adentalcare.com/wp-content/themes/medicare/editor-buttons/images/en/viagra-black.html no prescription\n Hidden pockets of society are prominent in his work\, interspersed with cultural life. His choice and handling of material is provocative\, yet also imbued with humanity and humour. \n\nSpessi was born in 1956 in Ísafjörður. His hometown has supplied inspiration for many of his works\, as the series Heroes and Sample attest; his latest project\, C19\, was also shot there. Spessi studied photography at Holland’s AKI Academy of Art and Design and graduated from there in 1994.buy stromectol online www.adentalcare.com/wp-content/themes/medicare/editor-buttons/images/en/stromectol.html no prescription\n His photographs and video works have appeared in numerous solo and group exhibitions here in Iceland and also abroad including in Holland\, Sweden\, Finland\, Latvia\, the United States\, and Britain. \nSpessi’s career spans more than 30 years and this retrospective offers a view of the countless stories his work presents. Proud everyday heroes\, lonesome petrol pumps\, abandoned spaces\, dented weapons of revolution\, gun owners\, flat-dwellers\, and artists\, ill at ease or sure of themselves. \nSpessi’s work is a mirror of Icelandic society and contains an important social critique.

SUMMARY:Kristján Magnússon: Bakgarðar
DESCRIPTION:Bakgarðar\, skúrar\, þvottasnúrur og einstaka köttur.

DESCRIPTION:Samtímaljósmyndarinn Spessi – Sigurþór Hallbjörnsson – hefur skapað sér einstakan stíl á sviði fagurfræðilegrar ljósmyndunar. SUMMARY:Eilíf endurkoma
DESCRIPTION:Á þessari viðamiklu sýningu mynda verk Jóhannesar S. Kjarvals (1885-1972) þráð sem tengir tvenna tíma. \n\nListamenn:\n\n\n\n\n\nJóhannes S. SUMMARY:Eternal Recurrence
DESCRIPTION:In this extensive exhibition\, the works of Jóhannes S. Kjarval (1885-1972) create a thread which connects different periods in time. His art is displayed along with the works of artists who have been prominent on the Icelandic art scene in recent years. \nShortly after Kjarval’s death\, art historian Björn Th. Björnsson (1922-2007) wrote an article where he discusses Kjarval’s contribution to Icelandic art history and says that his work is “never bound to one particular time\, but always contains renascent memories.” This shows the great respect which Icelanders have had for Kjarval’s art\, but also the fact that at any given time\, the viewers bring their own experience and attitude to the viewing. Kjarval’s influence is unquestionable\, and in the exhibition\, the spotlight is on his influence on Icelandic artists. This can manifest in many different ways; be obvious and decisive or appear in a more ambiguous way and without intent. \nKjarval’s most common and beloved subject was Icelandic nature and landscape\, but he also painted many portraits and fantasy images where creatures and figures emerge\, and various nature phenomena are personified. The artworks on display here are created in diverse media\, expressing different approaches to these subjects. \nKjarval plays a large role in the history of Icelandic art and culture\, and he has been a role model and inspiration for generations of artists. His persona and life’s work surrounds us\, for good reason. Kjarval’s work is preserved and examined at Reykjavík Art Museum – Kjarvalsstaðir. Selected pieces are always on display and diverse exhibitions show his career in a wide context\, often with works from the museum collection or with special exhibitions that focus on particular aspects of his creative process. This exhibition places Kjarval’s work in a dialogue with the works of younger\, contemporary artists. Thus\, the exhibition invites us to become better acquainted with one of the greatest Icelandic artists\, but also the works of prominent contemporary artists who have made their mark on the Icelandic and international art scene. \nWe experience a break in the visual field in Ólafur Elíasson’s work. For the first time in Iceland\, a series of paintings which Ragnar Kjartansson painted in Eldhraun – inspired by a Kjarval painting in the artists possession – is on display. The video installation Lava&Moss by Steina is one of the more comprehensive works in the exhibition\, and there are new paintings by Eggert Pétursson. Among other artists who take part in this exhibition are Guðrún Einarsdóttir\, Hrafnkell Sigurðsson\, Kristján Guðmundsson\, Ragna Róbertsdóttir and Sigurður Guðjónsson.
\n*27. ágúst 1918 fékk Sigurhans ráðherrabréf sem veitti honum leyfi til að taka upp ættarnafnið Vignir. Að ósk afkomenda er ættarnafnið ekki fallbeygt.

SUMMARY:Sigurhans Vignir: The Silent but Noble Art
DESCRIPTION:The Silent but Noble Art is a retrospective exhibition featuring the career of Sigurhans Vignir (1894-1975)\, who worked as a photographer from 1917 to 1965\, mostly in Reykjavík. \nVignir left behind a valuable photographic archive\, now preserved at the Reykjavík Museum of Photography\, which comprises around 40\,000 photographs – most of them taken between 1940 and 1965. Many of the images are significant documents of Icelandic society and how it developed in the years after the Republic of Iceland was founded in 1944. Vignir photographed a wide range of subjects\, often focussing on individuals on every kind of occasion from cradle to grave: a christening\, the foundation of the Republic\, labourers at work\, people skating\, the occupation of Iceland during World War II by British troops\, a beauty pageant\, a birthday party\, a wigmaker… and so on. \nVignir took many photographs for the City of Reykjavík\, documenting the many aspects of the municipality’s activities. He was also a prolific theatre photographer\, taking photos for the National Theatre\, the Reykjavík Theatre Company and other drama groups.buy lipitor Canada https://langleyrx.com/lipitor.html no prescription\n \nFeatured in the exhibition are 110 new enlargements made from the original negatives\, alongside original images\, including portraits and hand-tinted landscapes. \nCuration and selection of images: Gísli Helgason\, Sigríður Kristín Birnudóttir and Kristín Hauksdóttir.

SUMMARY:Hello Universe
DESCRIPTION:The far-distant spaces of the boundless universe have had a hold on the human mind from primeval times\, and over the centuries artists have grappled with notions about space\, and expressed and mediated them in diverse ways.buy propecia online herbalshifa.co.uk/wp-content/themes/twentytwentytwo/inc/patterns/en/propecia.html no prescription\n The exhibition Hello Universe explores the fantastical world of outer space through the lens of works of art in the collection of the National Gallery of Iceland. \nThe avant-garde art of Finnur Jónsson – the first Icelandic artist to address outer space in his works\, in the first half of the 20th century – presents the artist’s unfettered interpretation of the marvels of the celestial bodies\, which are the theme of this exhibition.buy cialis super active online herbalshifa.co.uk/wp-content/themes/twentytwentytwo/inc/patterns/en/cialis-super-active.html no prescription\n \nThe secrets of the Milky Way\, revealed by aged astrologers with predictions about weather and human destiny\, inspire works by Hildigunnur Birgisdóttir and Svavar Guðnason. Halldór Ásgeirsson’s Aurora Borealis Bar shimmers with colourful light; and Steina Vasulka’s installation Of the North transports the observer with her into an intense experience. \nIn the art of Ásgrímur Jónsson and Guðmundur Thorsteinsson (Muggur)\, from the first half of the 20th century\, we see how heavenly bodies play a role in folklore and tales\, as moonlight reveals mystical beings to human sight\, and the rays of the rising sun turn night-trolls to stone. The exhibition also includes many pieces from the 1960s and 70s\, when rapid advances in space technology took humans beyond the bounds of the Earth’s atmosphere for the first time. \nSpace and art share the common qualities of being interesting and mutable: they are in constant motion\, and new discoveries are always being made when one looks at art. Tumi\, the protagonist of artist Ásgerður Búadóttir’s book The Red Hat and the Raven\, will guide the youngest visitors around the exhibition in an accessible way\, to explore the scientific perspective and learn something new! \nCurators: Guðrún Jóna Halldórsdóttir and Ragnheiður Vignisdóttir \nScience consultant: Sævar Helgi Bragason

SUMMARY:Steina Vasulka: Of The North
DESCRIPTION:Steina’s gigantic video installation Of the North (2001) is an arresting and captivating work that touches all who see it. In the 1960s the possibility of recording sound and video in real time opened up new dimensions in the world of visual arts. Steina Vasulka and her husband Woody got to know avant-garde artists working in the new media when they were living in New York\, where they ran The Kitchen for a time – a venue for audio and video artists that opened in 1971. That was a time of rapid technological advances in electronic culture\, no less than in space science. Steina (Steinunn Bjarnadóttir Briem) and Woody Vasulka were pioneers who collaborated on a range of research regarding video art and the harnessing of electronic (and later digital) pulses. The equipment itself was also used in a dialogue whose aim was to create interesting works of art without compromising standards.\nbuy lasix generic https://rxbuywithoutprescriptionrxonline.com/lasix.html over the counter \nTheir colloquy with technology became most interesting and rewarding\, benefiting from Steina’s background in music and Woody’s technical expertise. “Motion and time are key aspects of my art\,” stated Steina. \nOf the North (2001) is created from Steina’s archive of video recordings\, mostly of Icelandic nature – either the surface of the earth\, or microscopic views: microbes\, as well as crashing waves and melting ice\, landslips and an array of natural phenomena relating to geological formation and destruction of our planet. The work also reaches out into space\, with spherical objects rotating around an imaginary axis in a hypnotic rhythm\, with all the concomitant sounds. The beat and energy evoke imagery that may lead the observer’s thoughts in many directions – whether to magnificent beauty\, or more down-to-earth musing on the vulnerability of nature and the impermanence of the earth.

DESCRIPTION:Snemma á fjórða áratug 20. aldar hóf Akureyrarbær formlega að kaupa listaverk og voru fyrstu kaupin málverk eftir Freymóð Jóhannsson\, sem hér er nú til sýnis.

SUMMARY:Selected Works\, Part II: Akureyri Art Museum Collection
DESCRIPTION:Akureyri municipality formally began purchasing artworks around 1930\, when a painting by Freymóður Jóhannsson was bought. Today the municipality owns around 700 diverse visual art works. \nAfter the founding of Akureyri Art Museum in 1993\, preservation of the collection became one of its roles.buy stromectol online https://www.mobleymd.com/wp-content/languages/new/stromectol.html no prescription\n The Museum adopted a policy of exhibiting the biggest part of the collection on the walls of the municipality’s institutions – which today is still the case. This makes the collection visible to the staff and residents of Akureyri municipality. \nIn this second exhibition\, the focus is again on the Akureyri Art Museum’s permanent collection. Great works by various artists\, will be exhibited. The criteria for selecting works from the collection was diversity and gender equality\, even though the collection mainly consists of works by male artists. It is however an interesting fact that through the years\, the number of works by female artist has steadily increased. \nCurators: Hlynur F. Þormóðsson and Þorbjörg Ásgeirsdóttir.

SUMMARY:Ásgrímur Jónsson: Korriró og dillidó
DESCRIPTION:Step into magic! The visual world of Icelandic folklore and fairy tales created by Ásgrímur Jónsson in his art is a truly enchanted realm. Elves\, trolls and ghosts\, which had lived in the Icelandic mind in the semi-darkness of the old turf farmhouse\, were given a clear form in Ásgrímur’s art. He first exhibited such pieces in Iceland in 1905. Ásgrímur’s works on folklore themes were well received; in the press\, reviewers expressed delight that for the first time the folktale heritage was being addressed by an Icelandic artist. Ásgrímur’s depictions of the appearance of elves and trolls met with widespread approval; hence the artist appears to have succeeded in capturing the way that Icelanders in general imagined such beings. Today the folklore paintings form part of the unique cultural heritage conserved in the collections of the National Gallery of Iceland. \nThe exhibition Corry-Roe and Diddly-Doe\, in the artist’s studio in his home on Bergstaðastræti\, offers an ideal opportunity to experience the unique supernatural world of elves in their finery and terrifying trolls\, as depicted with passionate sincerity by Ásgrímur Jónsson. At the exhibition visitors can listen to a number of folktales\, in both Icelandic and English; young and old\, families and groups can enjoy them in the unique setting of the artist’s own home. \nThe National Gallery of Iceland collection includes more than 1\,000 works relating to folklore and fairy tales; and in Ásgrímur Jónsson’s sketchbooks are 2\,000 drawings mainly inspired by that tradition. The exhibition in Ásgrímur Jónsson’s house displays a selection of his extensive oeuvre of folklore pictures – both oils and watercolours\, as well as drawings. These include his interpretations of such tales as Una the Elfwoman\, the Night Troll\, Gissur á Botnum\, Búkolla\, Mjaðveig Mánadóttir\, the Deacon of Myrká and “Look into my glowing eye\, Gunna.”

SUMMARY:Ásgrímur Jónsson: Korriró og dillidó
DESCRIPTION:Ævintýrin gerast enn! Myndheimur íslenskra þjóðsagna og ævintýra sem Ásgrímur Jónsson skapaði með verkum sínum er sannkallaður töfraheimur. Álfar\, tröll og draugar\, sem lifað höfðu í hugskoti þjóðarinnar í rökkri baðstofunnar\, tóku á sig skýra mynd í verkum Ásgríms\, en hann sýndi slík verk í fyrsta sinn á Íslandi árið 1905. Þjóðsagnamyndir Ásgríms fengu góðan hljómgrunn og í blaðaskrifum um sýninguna er því fagnað að í fyrsta sinn hafi íslenskur listmálari tekist á við að túlka þjóðsögurnar. Mikil sátt virðist hafa ríkt um útlit álfa og trölla í meðförum Ásgríms\, svo ætla má að listamanninum hafi tekist að fanga þá mynd sem landsmenn höfðu skapað í huga sér af þessum fyrirbærum. Þjóðsagnamyndirnar eru í dag hluti af einstökum menningararfi sem Listasafn Íslands varðveitir. \nSýningin Korriró og dillidó á vinnustofu Ásgríms í íbúðarhúsi hans við Bergstaðastræti veitir kærkomið tækifæri til að kynnast þeim einstaka ævintýraheimi skrautbúinna álfa og ógnvekjandi trölla sem Ásgrímur Jónsson túlkaði af mikilli einlægni og ástríðu. Á sýningunni er hægt að hlusta á lestur nokkurra þjóðsagna bæði á íslensku og ensku sem bæði ungir og aldnir\, fjölskyldur eða hópar geta notið í þeirri einstöku umgjörð sem heimili listamannsins er.\nÍ safneign Listasafns Íslands eru rúmlega 1.000 verk sem tengjast efni þjóðsagna og ævintýra og í teiknibókum Ásgríms Jónssonar eru yfir 2.000 teikningar sem að stórum hluta sækja myndefni í þennan sagnabrunn. \nÁ sýningunni í Ásgrímssafni má sjá brot af því fjölbreytta safni þjóðsagnamynda sem Ásgrímur Jónsson lét eftir sig\, bæði olíu- og vatnslitamálverk auk teikninga\, þ. á m. túlkun á sögunum Una álfkona\, Nátttröllið\, Gissur á botnum\, Búkolla\, Mjaðveig Mánadóttir\, Djákninn á Myrká og „Horfðu í glóðarauga mitt\, Gunna“.
