SUMMARY:Ásmundur Sveinsson and Carl Milles
DESCRIPTION:The exhibition  features the works of sculptors Ásmund Sveinsson (1893-1982) and Carls Milles (1875-1955) from Sweden and  is part of the collaboration between Millesgården Museum and Ásmundarsafn– both museums dedicated to the life and work of the two artists. Carl Milles is one of Sweden’s most respected sculptors and\, like Ásmundur\, he donated his house\, studio and work to the public after his death. Carl Milles was Ásmundur´s mentor during his student years in Stockholm. In 2020 it was 100 years since Ásmund started his studies at the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts under Milles’ guidance. The two museums have preserved records that shed light on how strong the bond between Ásmundur and Milles was\, and it can be found in their careers and works. Milles used the history and culture of his own nation as inspiration for his works\, and in the same way he encouraged Ásmund to seek inspiration in Icelandic cultural heritage\, which can clearly be seen in his works throughout his career. Both of them emphasised that art belongs in public spaces where most people have access to it. Ásmundur made  most of the outdoor artworks in the Reykjavík area\, as and some of his works can be found in other parts of the country. Milles’ work can also be found in many places in Sweden\, and he is especially known for his amazing fountains and water creatures. His works can also be found in other parts of the world\, most notably in the United States where he lived and taught for a long time. \nCurators: Edda Halldórsdóttir and Sigurður Trausti Traustason

SUMMARY:Ingunn Fjóla Ingþórsdóttir: Resonance
DESCRIPTION:In Ingunn Fjóla´s exhibition Resonance\, she explores the boundaries between painting and weaving\, as the works become a meditation and an attempt to capture the unstable state of color.\nColors appear in different ways in the works and influence each other. Pigments are either woven into the material or painted upon surfaces on the side and edges of the frame. Swathes of color are projected from the frame onto the wall behind and register in different ways depending on the lighting conditions and interaction with other colors. The works in the exhibition evoke an individual and unique sensory experience for the viewer.\nIngunn Fjóla ponders how we perceive a work of art – is it the object itself or the experience of it which we perceive? Is color tangible or intangible – can it be touched? In a scientific context\, colors are light waves of different wavelengths. We see colors due to properties of matter that emit waves which our eyes and brains perceive. But what meaning do we find and perceive within colors? The symbolic meaning of colors can change according to context\, cultures and periods. For example\, the color red can represent feelings of love or anger\, or simply a stopping point\, depending on the context in which it appears. Colors are relative\, and we all find our own meaning in colors based on individual experience and perception.\n________________\nIngunn Fjóla (b. 1976) graduated with an M.A. degree in Fine Art from the Iceland University of the Arts in the spring of 2017. She graduated with a B.A. degree in Fine Art from the same university in 2007\, and had previously completed a B.A. degree in art history from the University of Aarhus. Ingunn Fjóla’s works have been shown in many museums and galleries. These include solo exhibitions in Hafnarborg and the Cuxhavener Kunstverein\, participation in the international Prague Biennale\, as well as a number of group exhibitions in Iceland and abroad. During her career\, Ingunn Fjóla has received various grants and recognitions.

DESCRIPTION:Á sýningunni Endurvarp kannar Ingunn Fjóla Ingþórsdóttir mörk málverks og vefnaðar\, þar sem verkin verða hugleiðing og tilraun til að fanga óstöðugt ástand lita.\nLitir birtast á mismunandi hátt í verkunum og hafa áhrif hver á annan. Liturinn er ýmist ofinn inn í efnið eða málaður á fleti sem vísa fram eða til hliðar. Litafletir varpast á vegginn og birtast á mismunandi hátt eftir birtuskilyrðum\, samspili við aðra liti og augum þeirra sem horfa.\nIngunn Fjóla veltir fyrir sér hvernig við skynjum listaverk – er það hluturinn sjálfur eða upplifunin af honum sem við skynjum? Er litur áþreifanlegur eða óáþreifanlegur – er hægt að snerta hann? Eðlisfræðilega séð eru litir ljósbylgjur með mismunandi bylgjulengdir. Við sjáum liti vegna eiginleika efna sem varpa frá sér bylgjum sem augu okkar og heilar nema. En hvaða merkingu finnum við í litum? Táknræn merking lita getur breyst eftir samhengi\, menningarheimum og tímabilum. Til dæmis getur rauður litur táknað ást eða reiði eða einfaldlega stopp\, allt eftir samhenginu sem hann birtist í. Litir eru afstæðir\, og við finnum öll okkar eigin merkingu í litum eftir upplifun og skynjun.\n________________\nIngunn Fjóla Ingþórsdóttir (f. 1976) útskrifaðist með MA gráðu í myndlist frá Listaháskóla Íslands árið 2017 og BA gráðu í myndlist frá sömu stofnun árið 2007. Hún er einnig með BA gráðu í listasögu frá háskólanum í Árósum frá 2002. Ingunn Fjóla fæst aðallega við málverk og innsetningar. Í listsköpun sinni byggir hún gjarnan á sögu naumhyggjunnar og abstraktmálverksins. Verk hennar fela oft í sér gagnvirkni eða beina þátttöku og teygir hún þannig svið málverksins inn í opið kerfi þar sem verkin lifna við fyrir tilstilli áhorfenda og rýmisins. Verk Ingunnar hafa verið sýnd víða í galleríum og söfnum á Íslandi sem og erlendis. Ingunn Fjóla er handhafi Guðmunduverðlaunanna 2022.

SUMMARY:AIVAG's Legislation Kitchen
DESCRIPTION:Artist’s in Iceland Visa Action Group (AIVAG) welcomes you to a series of events at Gallery Port under the title Legislation Kitchen. AIVAG’s main aim of these events is forming a proposal of changes in legislation to immigrant labor laws\, focusing on artists living in Iceland coming from countries outside the Schengen area.\n\nThese legal and systemic restrictions have played a role in creating a lack of inclusivity and diversity in the Icelandic cultural scene. AIVAG has put emphasis on gathering data that clearly shows the low participation of non-EU/EEA artists in exhibitions at art museums and other exhibition spaces in Iceland within the last ten years and as well the small number of artists outside of the EU seeking to study in Iceland. AIVAG has written articles and organized discursive events on the data and on the issue as a whole with the aim of creating grounds for discussion on a wide spectrum within the Icelandic cultural scene. It is of the utmost importance that these developments take place within the structures of a community. AIVAG’s central aim is therefore to build up communal solidarity structures as we continue.\n\nAIVAG stands for Artist´s in Iceland Visa Action Group. Founded in 2021\, we are an advocacy group for immigrant cultural workers in Iceland and their workers rights. We aim to function as a collaborative community building platform as we address the issues to our agenda.\n\nWe are an open group that welcomes new members as we continue to grow and develop our horizontal structure. On each 15th of the month we meet together as a group.\n\nActive members now are Adam Flint\, Bilge Hasdemir\, Bryndís Björnsdóttir\, Hugo Llanes\, Megan Auður\, Vala Sigþrúður Jónsdóttir & Wiola Ujazdowska. With about thirty members that serve the role of a support.\n\nThe schedule is as follows:\n\n17th of February: Opening at Gallery Port\, drinks will be offered along with casual talks about the schedule ahead. Open from 17-19 o’clock\n18th February: Workshop with R.E.C Arts Reykjavík on community building – Allyship vs Accompliceship: How to combat the issue of exclusivity in Icelandic academic & artistic spaces. Food will be offered. DESCRIPTION:Artist’s in Iceland Visa Action Group (AIVAG) býður ykkur velkomin á röð viðburða sem munu eiga sér stað í Gallery Port í febrúar\, undir titlinum Legislation Kitchen – Löggjafa eldhús. Markmið AIVAG með þessum viðburðum er að móta drög að tillögum að lagabreytingum á vinnu- og dvalarleyfum innflytjenda á Íslandi\, með áherslu á listafólk sem býr á Íslandi en er með ríkisborgararétt frá löndum fyrir utan Schengen.\n\nVið trúum því að skortur á almennilegum réttindum aðflutts listafólks endurspegli stærri vandamál sem snerta kjör og aðstæður allra sem vinna við listir og menningu á Íslandi. Þess vegna þykir okkur mikilvægt að beina athygli að þessu viðfangsefni ekki aðeins fyrir þau sem málefnið snertir beint heldur samfélag listafólks í heild sinni.\n\nÞessar lagalegu hömlur ýta undir skort á fjölbreytni og inngildingu í íslensku menningarsamfélagi. AIVAG hefur lagt áherslu á að afla gagna sem sýna glöggt litla þátttöku listamanna utan ESB/EES í sýningum á listasöfnum og öðrum sýningarrýmum á Íslandi á síðustu tíu árum og einnig hversu fáir listamenn utan ESB hafa reynt að nám á Íslandi. Hópurinn hefur skrifað greinar og haldið málstofur til að vekja athygli á þessum gögnum og málefninu í heild sinni\, með það að markmiði að skapa grundvöll til samtals um þessi mál. Það er okkur mikilvægt að þessi hagsmunagæsla eigi sér stað á samfélagsgrundvelli\, og þess vegna stefnir AIVAG að því að leggja áherslu á að byggja upp samstöðu.\n\nAIVAG stendur fyrir Artists in Iceland Visa Action Group. Hópurinn var stofnaður árið 2021 og berst fyrir hagsmunum og vinnukjörum aðflutts listafólks sem býr og starfar á Íslandi. DESCRIPTION:Karen Björg Jóhannsdóttir er starfandi listmálari\, búsett í Reykjavík. Hún lauk 2 ára diplómu af listmálarabraut Myndlistarskólans í Reykjavík árið 2018. Hún hefur tekið þátt í ýmsum samsýningum í Reykjavík auk fjölda einkasýninga. Hún vinnur oft á mörkum hins hlutbundna og óhlutbundna og litagleðin er sjaldan langt undan.\nÁ sýningunni ACE-ar hefur Karen einbeitt sér að því að mála litrík\, gróf portrett af sterkum og öflugum konum sem standa henni nærri. Skaðleg upplifun í æsku (e. ACE-Adverse Childhood Experiences) nær yfir margskonar líkamlegt og andlegt ofbeldi\, vanrækslu og heimilisvandamál sem eiga sér stað í æsku.

SUMMARY:Kviksjá - Alþjóðleg safneign
DESCRIPTION:Á sýningunni gefst sjaldgæft tækifæri til að fá innsýn í þann hluta safneignar  Listasafns Reykjavíkur sem tileinkaður er alþjóðlegri myndlist. \nHvað veldur því að verk eftir erlenda listamenn rata í hendur safnsins? \nÍ gegnum tíðina hafa safninu borist gjafir frá listamönnum og velunnurum um víða veröld og eins hafa verk verið keypt í safneignina. Þá eru nokkur verk eftir heimskunna listamenn í almannarými borgarinnar og þar með í eigu og umsjón safnsins. Hér má nefna verk eftir þekkta listamenn eins og Yoko Ono\, Richard Serra og Claudio Parmiggiani. \nAf um sautján þúsund skráðum verkum\, skissum og öðrum safnkosti eru tæplega eitt þúsund eftir alþjóðlega listamenn. Þar eru nöfn sem telja mætti til „Íslandsvina“ en mikill fjöldi erlendra listamanna hefur bundist landinu sterkum böndum og haft víðtæk áhrif á íslenskt listalíf meðal annars með því að skilja eftir sig listaverk hér á landi. Mörgum hefur landið líka verið hugmyndalegur grunnur verka eða uppspretta myndefnis sem borðið hefur landið og menningu þess víða. \nÁ sýningunni Kviksjá – alþjóðleg safneign má sjá forvitnileg verk frá ýmsum tímum. Fyrir utan verk eftir listamenn sem dvalið hafa langdvölum hér á landi eru á sýningunni verk eftir listamenn á borði við Carolee Schneemann og Jean Jacques Lebel sem eru tilkomin vegna tenginga við Erró og veglegar gjafir hans til safnsins\, auk sérstakrar gjafar á verkum Flúxus-listamanna. Af nógu er að taka og óhætt að segja að hér kenni ýmissa grasa. \nMeðal listamanna sem eiga verk á sýningunni eru\, Dale Chiluly\, Ian Hamilton Finley\, Roni Horn\, Patrick Huse\, Bernd Koberling\, Alicja Kwade\, Kazumi Nakamura\, Yoko Ono\, Karin Sander\,  Lawrence Weiner og Barbara Westman \, . \nÍ ár\, 2023\, fagnar Listasafn Reykjavíkur því að 50 ár eru liðin frá því fyrsta aðsetur safnsins var formlega opnað á Kjarvalsstöðum. Í tilefni tímamótanna verður sérstakur gaumur gefinn að safneigninn og tækfærið nýtt til til þess að skoða og sýna gersemar úr safneigninni. \nMeð þessari sýningu hefst formlega sýningaröð á verkum úr safneign Listasafns Reykjavíkur undir yfirskriftinni Kviksjá. Í mars til ágúst mun standa yfir sýningin Kviksjá – Íslensk myndlist á 20. öld og frá frá júní til september Kviksjá – Íslensk myndlist á 21. öld  í Hafnarhúsi.

SUMMARY:Kaleidoscope – International Collection
DESCRIPTION:This year\, in 2023\, the Reykjavík Art Museum celebrates its 50th anniversary and it is an occasion to look at the treasures that have been collected over this time. Of the approximately 17\,000 registered works\, sketches and other collection items\, there are nearly one thousand by international artists. Amongst those\, are names that can be considered “friends of Iceland”\, but various other connections also lie behind these works in the collection. Throughout the years\, work donations have been made by artists and friends of the museum from around the world\, while others have been specifically aqcuired for the museum collection. There are also several works by renowned international artists in the city’s public spaces and thus owned and maintained by the museum. \nThis exhibition is divided into an introductory section where interesting international works give insight into various eras\, works in the collection that have resulted through connections with Erró and his generous gifts to the museum in recent decades\, and a special donation of selected works by Flúxus artists from a sister institution in Norway. There is enough to choose from and it is safe to say that this will be a curious display. Artists in the exhibition include Barbara Westman\, Dale Chiluly\, Ian Hamilton Finley\, Roni Horn\, Patrick Huse\, Karin Sander\, Bernd Koberling\, Lawrence Weiner\, Carolee Schneemann\, Jean Jacques Lebel\, Alicja Kwade\, Yoko Ono and Kazumi Nakamura.

DESCRIPTION:Allt til þessa höfum við ekki skilið það dularmál sem berst frá þessum hljóðgjöfum\n  \nLogi Leó Gunnarsson er 47. listamaðurinn til að sýna í sýningarröð Listasafns Reykjavíkur í D-sal. \nLogi Leó vinnur með hljóð\, skúlptúra og vídeó í óvæntum samsetningum og innsetningum sem gjarnan yfirtaka sýningarrýmið á kankvísan hátt. Logi notast við hversdagslegan efnivið í bland við tónlist\, upptöku og hljóðbúnað og fær þannig áhorfendur til að horfa og hlusta á kunnuglega hluti á nýjan hátt. \nLogi Leó Gunnarsson (f.1990) býr og starfar í Reykjavík. Hann útskrifaðist með BA gráðu í Myndlist frá Listaháskóla Íslands árið 2014 og hafa verk hans meðal annars verið sýnd í Grikklandi\, Noregi\, Sviss og Rússlandi. Logi Leó tók þátt í sýningu Listasafns Reykjavíkur Abrakadabra 2021. \nSýningaröðin í D-sal hóf göngu sína árið 2007. Hér er listamönnum sem hafa mótandi áhrif á íslenska myndlistarsenu boðið að halda sína fyrstu einkasýningu í opinberu safni.

DESCRIPTION:Logi Leó works with sound\, sculpture and video in unexpected compositions and installations that often take over the exhibition space.  By activating everyday materials in combination with music\, recordings and sound equipment\, he enables the audience look at and listen to familiar things in a new way. \nLogi Leó Gunnarsson (b.1990) lives and works in Reykjavík. He graduated with a BA degree in Fine Art from the Iceland University of the Arts in 2014. Logi has exhibited works in Kópavogur Art Museum\, Gallery Port\, Kunsthall Oslo and One Minute Space in Athens. Logi participated in the exhibition Abrakadabra at Reykjavík Art Museum in 2021. \nThe D-Gallery exhibition series started in 2007 and invites emerging artists who are contributing to the development of the local contemporary art scene to hold their first solo exhibition in a public museum.

DESCRIPTION:Sýningin ber heitið \,\,Þar sem köttur hvílir\, þar er heimili‘‘ og stendur til sunnudagsins 5. mars.\nAtli Pálsson er myndlistarmaður sem útskrifaðist vorið 2020 frá Listaháskóla Íslands. Verk Atla rýna oft í hversdagslegar athafnir og samfélagsleg gildi á húmorískan máta. Viðfangsefni eins og tilefnislaus verðlaun\, persónulegir sigrar\, ofurgestrisni og gjafmildi hafa verið í forgrunni verka hans\, sem og persónusköpun. Ofgnótt einkennir oft framsetningu þessara hugmynda. Undanfarið hefur Atli beint sjónum sínum að heimilinu í verkum sínum í seríu sem kallast “vistarverur”. Sýningin “Þar sem köttur hvílir\, þar er heimili” er ákveðið framhald af vangaveltum um umhverfi og andrúmsloft sem myndast getur í heimilisrýminu. Á sýningunni er áhorfandanum boðið að kynnast hópi katta inni á heimili þeirra. Þeir horfa löngunaraugum út um gluggann á fuglana sem fljúga frjálsir. Kannski einn daginn komast þeir sjálfir á flug.

SUMMARY:Atli Pálsson: Home is where the cat rests
DESCRIPTION:Atli Pálsson graduated from the Iceland Academy of the Arts in the spring of 2020. Atli’s works often scrutinize everyday activities and social values in a humorous way. Subjects such as gratuitous rewards\, personal triumphs\, hyper-hospitality and generosity have been at the forefront of his work\, as well as characterisation. Excess often characterizes the presentation of these ideas. Lately\, Atli has turned his attention to the home in his works in a series called “living spaces”. The exhibition “Home is where the cat rests” is a definite continuation of speculations about the environment and atmosphere that can be created in the home space. In the show\, the viewer is invited to get to know a group of cats in their home. They look longingly out the window at the birds flying free. Maybe one day they will get to fly themselves.

SUMMARY:Daníel Magnússon: Constructive Vandalism
DESCRIPTION:The exhibition contains ten works that  Magnússon has been working on in recent years. “A circle and its diameter are obscurely related in an irrational ratio. This means that these most common forms of creation can not have relations refering to their own existence. Thus\, the circle can not describe its diameter and the diameter is unaware of the circle. The exhibition Constructive Vandalism is the wrecking of the perfect thesis of Galileo and Bruno and an exaltation of the geocentric theory of Ptolemy. The show is my equally rational attempt to describe a consensus about the cosmology\, as the circleʼs attempt to describe its diameter\,” says Daníel Magnússon in the exhibition catalogue. \nMost of the works are created with pencil and pen on paper. They are mostly intended as cartography for the centralised world of Ptolemy. Two of them are saliva print on cotton\, they serve as accompaniment to the other maps\, to lend this world a comprehensive foundation. \nDaníel Magnússon graduated from The Icelandic College of Art and Crafts in 1987 and immediately became known for interesting work which more often than not dealt with Icelandic culture. He is mostly known for sculptures and photographic work but has also designed and built furniture and sets for theatres and performances. Daníel has held well over ten solo exhibitions as well as participating in numerous group exhibitions in Iceland and abroad. His work can be found in the collections of Reykjavík Art Museum\, the City of Reykjavík\, various public institutions and private collectors around the world.

DESCRIPTION:Á sýningunni Konstrúktívur vandalismi eru tíu verk sem Daníel hefur unnið á undanförnum misserum. „Hringur og þvermál hans eru bundnir innbyrðis hlutfalli sem er torrætt. Það þýðir að þessi algengustu form sköpunarinnar geta ekki átt samskipti sem vísa í þeirra eigin tilvist. Þannig getur hringurinn ekki lýst þvermáli sínu og þvermálið þekkir ekki hringinn. Sýningin Konstrúktívur vandalismi er skemmdarverk á fullkominni kennisetningu þeirra Galileos Galilei og Giordanos Bruno og upphafning jarðmiðjukenningar Ptólemæusar. Sýningin er jafn rökrétt tilraun mín til að lýsa samkomulagi um heimsmyndina eins og hringsins sem lýsir þvermáli sínu\,“ segir Daníel Magnússon í sýningartexta. \nVerkin á sýningunni eru flest unnin með blýanti og penna á pappír. Þau eru flestöll hugsuð sem kortagerð fyrir hinn miðjusetta heim Ptólemæusar. Tvenn verkanna eru frussprent á bómull og eru þau hugsuð sem undirspil við hin kortin til að gefa þessum heimi heildrænni grunn. \nDaníel Magnússon útskrifaðist úr Myndlista- og handíðaskóla Íslands árið 1987 og vakti þá strax athygli fyrir áhugaverð verk þar sem íslensk menning var oftar en ekki til umfjöllunar. Hann er einkum þekktur fyrir skúlptúra og ljósmyndaverk en hefur jafnframt myndlistinni hannað og smíðað húsgögn og unnið leikmyndir fyrir leikhús og sýningar. Daníel á að baki annan tug einkasýninga ásamt fjölda samsýninga bæði innanlands og utan. Verk hans eru m.a. í eigu Listasafns Íslands\, Reykjavíkurborgar\, ýmissa ríkisstofnana\, og einkaaðila bæði hérlendis og erlendis.

DESCRIPTION:The museum has a unique collection of approximately 550 works of art\, from the greatest masters of Icelandic art to lesser-known artists. Founded in 1963\, it was the first art museum in Iceland to open outside the capital. Bjarnveig Bjarnadóttir and her sons Loftur and Bjarni Markús may justly be said to have laid the cornerstone for the LÁ Art Museum with a generous donation of works of art from their collection in 1963. Their initial gift comprised 41 works of art\, and they continued to donate works to the museum until 1986 – when the collection amounted to 75 works of art. It contains works of the greatest masters of Icelandic painting in the first half of the twentieth century: 19 paintings by Ásgrímur Jónsson\, and works by Kjarval\, Gunnlaugur Scheving\, Jón Stefánsson and Þorvaldur Skúlason among others. Bjarnveig’s taste is noteworthy\, as is her sense of new trends\, as shown in her later gifts. She paid attention to the work of abstract artists (Hörður Ágústsson and Kjartan Guðjónsson) but also devoted a lot of effort to the works of Icelandic women\, such as Björg Þorsteinsdóttir\, Þorbjörg Höskuldsdóttir and Ragnheiður Jónsdóttir.

DESCRIPTION:Safnið býr yfir einstöku samansafni af um það bil 550 listaverka\, allt frá merkustu meisturum íslenskrar myndlistar til atgervisgróskunnar í sveitunum í kring. Það var stofnað árið 1963 og er þar með fyrsta listasafnið á Íslandi sem tók til starfa utan höfuðborgarinnar. Því verður með réttu haldið fram að Bjarnveig Bjarnadóttir* og synir hennar Loftur og Bjarni Markús hafi lagt hornsteininn að Listasafni Árnesinga með rausnarlegri gjöf listaverka úr sinni eigu til Árnessýslu árið 1963. Gjöf þeirra var 41 listaverk og héldu mæðginin áfram að gefa safninu verk fram til ársins 1986 og taldi safnið þá 75 listaverk. Það inniheldur verk merkustu meistara íslenskrar málaralistar á fyrri helmingi tuttugustu aldar: 19 málverk eftir Ásgrím Jónsson og verk eftir Kjarval\, Gunnlaug Scheving\, Jón Stefánsson og Þorvald Skúlason meðal annarra. Smekkur Bjarnveigar er eftirtektarverður sem og skynbragð hennar á nýja strauma eins og birtist í síðari gjöfum hennar. Hún lagði sig eftir verkum abstraktlistamanna (eftir Hörð Ágústsson og Kjartan Guðjónsson) en lagði líka mikið upp úr að gefa verk íslenskra kvenna\, á borð við Björgu Þorsteinsdóttur\, Þorbjörgu Höskuldsdóttur og Ragnheiði Jónsdóttur.

DESCRIPTION:It is appropriate to celebrate the fact that Akureyri Art Museum will again be buying artwork for its collection. The exhibition New and Brand New gives an overview over artworks that have been donated to the museum during the last few years but haven‘t been exhibited before\, as well as brand new works bought for the collection. \nOne of the main roles of art museums is to collect art and exhibit their collection and is it therefore important to regularly acquire artwork that reflect art history. \nAmong the things stated in Akureyri Art Museum’s procurement policy is that Icelandic art should be collected and furthermore a special emphasis is on collecting art tied to North Iceland. The receiving of donations is limited to art that serves the goal of a comprehensive and focused collection. The Museum director and members of the Museum Counsel\, decide which donations to accept\, based on the procurement policy and the state of the permanent collection. \nCurator: Hlynur Hallsson.

DESCRIPTION:Því ber að fagna að nú getur Listasafnið á Akureyri aftur hafist handa við kaup á verkum í safneignina. Sýningin Ný og splunkuný gefur yfirlit yfir verk sem safninu hafa verið gefin á síðustu árum en hafa ekki verið sýnd og splunkuný verk sem safnið hefur keypt. \nEitt af meginhlutverkum listasafna er að safna myndlist og miðla safneigninni\, enda mikilvægt að safna með reglubundnum hætti listaverkum sem endurspegla listasöguna.  \nÍ söfnunarstefnu Listasafnsins segir meðal annars: „Söfnunarsvið Listasafnsins á Akureyri er allt landið en jafnframt leggur safnið sérstaka áherslu á söfnun verka sem tengjast Norðurlandi.“ Móttaka gjafa takmarkast af því markmiði að Listasafnið byggi upp heillega og markvissa safneign. Safnstjóri og fulltrúar í Listasafnsráði fjalla um og taka ákvarðanir er varða móttöku gjafa og um kaup á nýjum verkum. Verkið hefur farið sigurför um helstu listasöfn heims og hefur einungis einu sinni áður verið sýnt á Íslandi\, í Kling og Bang 2012. \nRagnar Kjartansson (f. 1976) nam við Listaháskóla Íslands\, Konunglegu Akademíuna í Stokkhólmi og Hússtjórnarskólann í Reykjavík. SUMMARY:Ragnar Kjartansson: The Visitors
DESCRIPTION:The Visitors – an ode to friendship under the intonation of romantic desperation. A group of friends and musicians gather in the natural habitat of bohemians\, during the twilight hour\, in the faded splendor of Rokeby Farm in Upstate New York. The location becomes a scene for what Kjartansson calls a feministic nihilistic gospel-song: a multilayered portrait of the artist‘s friends\, an exploration of film-music\, which title derives from ABBA‘s final album\, The Visitors\, marked by separation and defeat. The music is written to a collage of sentences from Ásdís Sif Gunnarsdóttir´s video works and performances. \nThe Guardian named The Visitors the best artwork of the 21st century after it was first exhibited in the Migros Museum in Zürich 2012. The work has triumphed in all the major art museums of the world and has only once before been exhibited in Iceland\, in Kling & Bang 2012. \nRagnar Kjartansson (born 1976) studied at Iceland University of the Arts\, The Royal Academy in Stockholm and the Homemaking School in Reykjavík. His solo exhibitions have been held in respected art museum around the world. DESCRIPTION:„Minningar eru flókin fyrirbæri. Það er svo margt sem spilar inn í þegar kemur að minningum. Sumt festist betur í minninu en annað og er alltaf ljóslifandi á meðan annað gleymist alfarið. Við höfum nánast enga stjórn á því heldur. Við höldum áfram að lifa\, nýjar minningar verða til og aðrar gleymast á hverjum degi. Hvað verður um minningarnar sem við gleymum? Skiptu þær aldrei neinu máli? \nMinningarnar móta okkur\, allt fólkið og mismunandi umhverfi sem hefur þar áhrif. Jón Helgi veltir fyrir sér hvað það sé sem gerir fólk að því sem það sé í dag. Hvaða fólk og umhverfi hafa mótað minningar þess og hvernig það líti út í minninu. Hvað fólk sjái þegar það loki augunum. \nÍ sýningunni blandar Jón Helgi sínum eigin myndum saman við ljósmyndir úr fortíðinni til að gefa áhorfandanum innsýn í hvernig hann upplifir sínar persónulegu minningar á sjónrænan hátt. Með öðrum orðum – hvað hann sér þegar hann lokar augunum. Í hvert skipti birtist ný minning eða önnur svipmynd af henni. „Ég loka augunum\, ég sé brosandi andlit ömmu minnar sitjandi í gamla góða hægindastólnum að prjóna enn eina ullarpeysuna. Ég sé snjókomu í næturmyrkrinu í gegnum bílglugga á 90 kílómetra hraða\, við hlið mér er faðir minn\, við sjáum ekki lengra en að næstu stiku….” \nLjósmyndir geta virkað eins og minningar! \nJón Helgi Pálmason er frá Hafnarfirði en býr núna í Haag í Hollandi þar sem hann stundar nám í ljósmyndun í Royal Academy of Arts. Þar áður útskrifaðist hann frá ljósmyndadeild Tækniskólans í Reykjavík og eftir það KBH Film og Fotoskole í Kaupmannahöfn. Jón Helgi hefur sýnt bæði erlendis og hér á landi.
