Sindri “Sparkle” Freyr: Portraits of Pleasure

Portraits of Pleasure er sería af kyrralífsmálverkum þar sem listamaðurinn reynir að fanga kynhneigð vina sinna í kyrralífsverk af uppáhalds kynlífsleikföngum hvers vinar. Með því að mála þessa plast leikföng og titrandi vélar reynir hán að opna samtal um nautn og eftirlætissemi, hvað er talið vera við hæfi, hvað ekki og mikilvægi þess að njóta lífsins.
Sindri “Sparkle Freyr er fjöllistamaður sem býr og starfar í Reykjavík. Hann hefur verið að sýna verk sín í galleríum síðan 2015. Sindri hefur átt 5 einkasýningar og tekið þátt í 9 samsýningum. Hann hefur líka gefið út ljóðabók, listabók og ljóða/listabók.
Sindri skrifaði, leikstýrði og lék aðalhlutverkið í kvikmyndini Opening Up sem vann “Punch in the face” verðlaunin á Reykjavík Fringe Festival. Hann lék líka aðalhlutverkið í “Allir úr” auglýsingarherferð Nova.
Sindri kýs öll persónufornöfn, hann/hún/hán.
Árið 2017 útskrifaðist Sindri af sjónlistabraut í Myndlistaskólanum í Reykjavík. Beint eftir það kláraði hann síðan málaradiplóma við sama skóla.
Núna er hann að vinna að BA gráðu í grafískri hönnun við Listaháskóla Íslands.
Sindri vinnur líka utan almenna fagurlistaheimsins. Hann situr nú í stjórn BDSM á Íslandi þar sem hann er ritari. Hann reynir að fremja reglulega gjörninga sem dragdrottningin Kink Ween og er einnig að taka sín fyrstu skref inn í uppistand.
Líkt og ferill hans er fjölbreyttur geta þemu verka hans líka fjallað um ýmislegt.
Oftast fjalla þau þó um kynhneigð, sögur, existentíalisma, hinseginleika og fantasíur, bæði nördalegar og erótískar.
Portraits of Pleasure is a series of still life paintings where, the artist attempts to capture their friends’ sexualities in classical still lifes of each friend’s favorite toy. By painting these plastic toys and rumbling cyber machines they are hoping to open up a conversation about indulgence, what is considered proper, and the importance of enjoying life.
Sindri “Sparkle” Freyr is a Reykjavík based multidisciplinary artist. They have been actively exhibiting their art in galleries since 2015. Sparkle has had 5 solo exhibitions and taken part in 9 group shows. They have also published a poetry book, an art book, and an art/poetry book.
Sparkle wrote, directed, and starred in the movie Opening Up which won the “Punch in the face award” at the Reykjavík Fringe festival. They also starred in the “Allir Úr” ad campaign in 2020.

Sindri goes by the pronouns he/her/they
In 2017 Sparkle graduated from the visual art department in Myndlistaskólinn í Reykjavík. They then followed it up by getting a fine art painting diploma from the same school. They are now studying for a BA in Graphic design from Listaháskóli Íslands.
Sparkle also works outside the mainstream fine art world. They are on the board of BDSM in Iceland. They try to regularly perform as the drag queen Kink Ween. They are also taking their first steps into stand-up comedy.
Like their eclectic career, the themes of Sparkle’s art can be varied. Their art mostly focuses on sexuality, stories, existentialism, queerness, and, fantasy, both nerdy and erotic.
