Erum við að viðhalda þrákelknislegri sjálfsblekkingu með því að greina á milli fortíðar, nútíðar og framtíðar? Er tíminn alltaf afstæður, jafnvel fyrir líffræðilega skeiðklukku mannslíkamanns? Afhverju getum við umbreytt orku úr einu formi í annað, en ekki skapað orku eða eytt henni? Er heildarmagn orku og efnis í alheiminum föst stærð, en á sífelldu flæði úr einu formi í annað? Ef svo fer að mannkynið verður ekki alveg útdautt einhvern tíma á næstu milljónum ára og hefur heldur ekki tekist að eyða öllu lífi á Jörðinni, hvað mun sitja eftir? Hverskonar líf lifir okkur af?
