Nightmare Fuel is an international group exhibition with artists from Germany, Polland, England, Denmark and Iceland. The exhibition forms a duo with the exhibition Milky Dreams & Pearly Wheels which will take place in November in Germany and feature the works of Iceland based artists Una Björg Magnúsdóttir and Berglind Jóna Hlynsdóttir. The gas station represents a passing-through location, a real paradox as movement is constant and at the same time filling up gas is a break in the driver’s trip. It is, after Marc Augé, a non-place. This duality offers a nourished ground to question the representation of a space, through its cultural, mythological or assimilative characteristics. Nightmare Fuel aims to explore the fluctuating borders between imaginary and physical spaces. What does it mean when someone hangs between two places at the same time, like in a nightmare?
Or drives towards a wall in slow motion? The last few years have shown us disorientation, lasting catastrophes and unrestrained hope and progress, whether particularly vulnerable, locked in stasis or in unexpected bliss. This exhibition explores the tension between the ordinary and the unusual.
Understanding our environment and the border between the surreal and the real.
