Gil Artist in Residence Melanie Clemmons exhibits the products of her stay.
Digital asset packs, a collection of digital files often organized around a theme, have spiked in popularity for use in video games like Fortnite and Roblox, as well as in social media and the (possibly) looming Metaverse. These ‘bundles’ or ‘packs’ contain 3D models, images, sounds and animations, among other file types. While in residency at the Gil society, Melanie Clemmons created an asset pack using photogrammetry and 3d scanning processes. Akureyri’s flora and landscapes serve as the raw material for Clemmons’ assets, however the resulting pieces are warped, contorted, crushed, and whorled, existing more as symbols of unreality than recognizable objects.
In the exhibition Boreal Crush Pack, viewers are invited to explore worlds Clemmons has created using her distorted asset pack. Works on display include interactive 3D animations, video art, and virtual and augmented reality.

Melanie Clemmons (she/they) is a new media artist interested in reimagining technology toward a more careful and sublime future. Her work has been exhibited in galleries and museums internationally, and consists of video, net art, installation, 3D printed sculpture and XR experiences. Clemmons toured with Pussy Riot performing visuals during their first North American tour, and has collaborated on several of their music videos.

She is an assistant professor of digital/hybrid media at SMU in Dallas, TX.

Á sýningunni Boreal Crush Pack er áhorfendum boðið að skoða myndheima sem Clemmons hefur skapað með því að nota brenglaða eignapakkan sinn. Til sýnis verða gagnvirkar 3D hreyfimyndir, vídjólist og sýndarveruleiki.

Melanie Clemmons (hún/hán) er listamaður sem vinnur í nýmiðla og hefur áhuga á að endurhugsa tækni í átt að varkárari og undursfagurri framtíð. Verk hennar hafa verið sýnd í galleríum og söfnum á alþjóðavettvangi og samanstanda af myndböndum, netlist, innsetningum, þrívíddarprentuðum skúlptúrum og sýndarveruleika. Clemmons túraði með Pussy Riot og sýndi myndefni á fyrstu tónleikaferðalagi þeirra um Norður-Ameríku auk þess að hafa unnið að nokkrum tónlistarmyndböndum þeirra. Hún hefur einnig unnið með Zak Loyd síðan 2009, flutt lifandi myndefni á tónleikum og unnið innlimunarmyndband, laser og sýndarveruleikainnsetningar. Hún er lektor í stafrænum / blendingsmiðlum við SMU í Dallas, Texas.
