The exhibition HOME – BETWEEN A SHELTER AND A CAGE serves as a transformative journey, seamlessly blending visual art, philosophy, and storytelling. It transcends traditional confines, serving simultaneously as a visual installation and an internal odyssey. Through photography, video, and sound, it threads together perspectives from across the world. Amidst this intricate tapestry emerges the complexity of what constitutes a home—a delicate interplay of emotions, relationships, and expectations, in constant interaction with a dynamic environment. Yet, despite this elaborate dance, the exhibition manages to distill the nuanced concept of home into a coherent and accessible panorama. It invites viewers to reflect on the profound complexities of the mental and physical spaces we designate as “home.”

In his creative journey, Yoav wears numerous hats. As a photographer, researcher, artist, facilitator, anthropologist, and philosopher, he discovers his core in crafting profound experiences. Gathering wisdom, processing it, and sharing it in creative, impactful ways is where his true passion lies. From these diverse roles emerges a distinct identity as a curator of enriching moments.

The narrative of his life weaves a tapestry of exploration and introspection. Since his childhood in Israel, his pursuit of liberation extended to both physical and mental dimensions, guiding him along unconventional paths to uncover deep-seated truths about our contemporary existence. In recent years, he’s embarked on an intercontinental quest to delve into unconventional lifestyles. Beginning as a social scientist, he swiftly embraced a profoundly personal connection, capturing narratives, locations, and individuals that challenged his perceptions and kindled his curiosity. The profound insights drawn from these experiences, combined with dedicated studies in philosophy, converged into an exploration of the very essence of home. This endeavor manifested as the interdisciplinary visual exhibition titled HOME – Between a Shelter and a Cage.

Sýningin HOME – BETWEEN A SHELTER AND A CAGE tekur áhorfandan í ferðalag þar sem myndlist, heimspeki og frásagnarlist blandast saman og úr verður sjónræn innsetning og ferðalag inn á við. Með ljósmyndun, myndbandi og hljóði þræðir hún saman mismunandi sjónarhorn heimsins og kannar hversu flókið hugtakið heimili er – viðkvæmt samspil tilfinninga, tengsla og væntinga, í stöðugu samspili við kraftmikið umhverfi. Þrátt fyrir þennan vandasama dans, tekst sýningunni að eima blæbrigðaríka hugtakið heimili í heildstæða og aðgengilega víðmynd. Í listsköpun sinni ber Yoav marga hatta; hann er ljósmyndari, rannsakandi, listamaður, leiðbeinandi, mannfræðingur og heimspekingur.    En það að búa til djúpstæða reynslu er kjarninn í listköpun hans. Ástríða hans liggur í því að safna að sér visku, vinna úr henni og deila henni á skapandi og áhrifaríkan hátt.

Yoav nýtir sína eigin lífsreynslu í sköpun sinni, en barnæska hans í Ísrael hefur haft mikil áhrif. Leit hans að frelsi hefur teygt sig til bæði líkamlegra og andlegra vídda, og leitt hann á óhefðbundnar brautir með það markmið að komast að sannleikanum um tilveru mannsins. Undanfarin ár hefur hann verið á ferðalag um heiminn til að kafa ofan í óhefðbundinn og mismunandi lífsstíl fólks. Hann byrjaði sem félagsvísindamaður og myndaði fljótt persónuleg tengsl á þeim stöðum sem hann heimsótti. Hann fangar frásagnir, staðsetningar og einstaklinga sem hafa áhrif á hann. Hin djúpstæða innsýn sem fengin var af þessari reynslu, ásamt námi í heimspeki, rann saman í rannsókn á kjarna heimilisins. Þessi rannsókn birtist okkur hér sem þverfagleg sýning og ber hún titilinn HOME – Between a Shelter and a Cage.
